Who Home Educates?.........

http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_ekoko/20060816.html

The second in a series of articles about homeschooling in Canada..............

I find it interesting that homeschooling families have on average 3.6 children compared to the national average of 1.1

Alberta and Ontario have the most homeschoolers!

Todays outfit...............

This is the amazing ensemble that Abigail has put together today...the shirt she tie-dyed back in the Spring..........her sisters glittery purple skirt and the necklace she got in one of those machine things at the mall yesterday................she has SUCH a sense of style........she gets it from her Father lol!

If all else fails...blame the father ;)

The Libertine................

So my sister was telling me that (heavenly) Johnny Depp was in my old home town last year filming 'The Libertine'. In fact he was filming at Montacute House which is right by my Nephews school..............My Mum and Dad and my sister live by this old house......and quite a few movies have been made there in the past...............

Johnny Depp....in my old home town...................and I wasn't there!!!!

My Blog book............

So I have a thing for spiral bound notebooks...especially little ones............and I have one that I call my 'blog book'...I try and carry this with me at all tiomes because you just don't know when you will think of something to put in your blog.......(ok lol I realise I am the only one still blogging regularly and still slightly (ok big time) obsessed with blogging but someone has to stick with it)..................

So anyway.......I have this notebook and in it I write all kinds of things that might be worth blogging about if and when I have the time.............

So today, while sat in bed,I jotted down:

Elvis died 29 years ago today.............

A lady gave birth in a canal after a labour contraction caused her to crash her car..........a policeman found her and rescued the baby who was on the passenger seat still with the umbilical cord attached......they have named the baby Miracle Biggs........the Motehrs parents didn't even know she was pregnant!

We had a coyote in the back yard again last night.........we quite often have them in the back yard.......and you can hear them a lot at night...I like the noise....I open the windows wider to listen.....I know they are quite often down near the pond........we also have several deer that sleep in the back field as you can see where they have been sleeping as the grass is flattened........coyotes sound like a bunch of girls when they howl together at night........

On the news this morning they announced that Sesame Street is to have a new character this year...a student fairy named Abby!!!!

Back to school is the second most expensive time of year for (most) families........Christmas is first.....stress and anxiety is very common in children during this time......the news report this morning was showing how to teach your children relaxation exercises to cope with the stress.........neither of these points relate to us........yesterday we strolled aorund the school supplies aisles in Zellers and it was a wonderfully smug feeling to see all the parents with their long lists of supplies to buy........we don't have to buy anything :) we don't have to rush and we don't have to stress :) ......but I was tempted by the pretty spiralbound notebooks lol!

Summer is drawing to an end..you can feel it in the air....the evenings are chilly and I have to wear a sweater outside......even at 28c during the day the evenings are colder..........theres a nip in the air in the mornings too........It was only 8c this morning................I like it :) Fall is almost here ...Hallmark has all its gorgeous Fall supplies in...I think I will have to head over to Homesense soon as they always do gorgeous Fall things!!!

So there you go...........those are this mornings jottings :) fascinating huh????? lol!

More pictures from last night.....

Our neighbour was cutting his hay yesterday.......the other pictures are of the girls on our walk with Amber and Rosie Posie..............

Thursday says hello....................

I was awake at 5:30 this morning...just in time to wave Lloyd off to work...and I couldn't get back to sleep so I took photos of this mornings sunrise from Laurences bedroom window.......

Yesterday I did 13,208 steps...................this morning so far I have done 828 since I put my step counter on.....I'm so glad I found it....................

This morning I have sorted three baskets of clean laundry, I have washed one load of dirty. I have washed yesterdays eggs....fed the dogs breakfast and changed their water........tidied and cleaned my bathroom......tidied my bedroom............put away all Sams clothes.......chatted with Lloyd on the phone twice................

And its 8:44am.............not bad for me :)

Another awesome quote................

Pam posted this to the homeschool group so I asked if she'd mind me posting it here too :) Thank you Pam :)

School trains children to be employees and consumers;
teach your own to be leaders and adventurers.
School trains children to obey reflexively;
teach your own to think critically and independently.
Well-schooled kids have a low threshold for boredom;
help your own to develop an inner life so that they'll never be
bored. Urge them to take on the serious material, the grown-up
material, in history, literature, philosophy, music, art, economics,
theology - all the stuff schoolteachers know well enough to avoid.
Challenge your kids with plenty of solitude so that they can learn to
enjoy their own company, to conduct inner dialogues.
Well-schooled people are conditioned to dread being alone, and they
seek constant companionship through the TV, the computer, the cell
phone, and through shallow friendships quickly acquired and quickly
abandoned. Your children should have a more meaningful life, and they
can.
First, though, we must wake up to what our schools really are:
laboratories of experimentation on young minds, drill centers for the
habits and attitudes that corporate society demands. Mandatory
education serves children only incidentally; its real purpose is to
turn them into servants. Don't let your own have their childhoods
extended, not even for a day. If David Farragut could take command of
a captured British warship as a pre-teen, if Thomas Edison could
publish a broadsheet at the age of twelve, if Ben Franklin could
apprentice himself to a printer at the same age (then put himself
through a course of study that would choke a Yale senior today),
there's no telling what your own kids could do. After a long life,
and thirty years in the public school trenches, I've concluded that
genius is as common as dirt. We suppress our genius... The solution,
I think, is simple and glorious. Let them manage themselves.

Happy Birthday Terry...............

Today is Lloyds Moms birthday.......

Happy Birthday Terry...

hope you are having a great day!

(It's also Madonnas birthday......she's 48!!!! How can that be????)

Robert Barrington-Leigh.......MISSING

Please check out this website: www.findrobert.ca

Robert went missing Sunday night after leaving home to cycle through Mill Creek Ravine in Edmonton to go and look at the Folk Festival................he hasn't been seen since.

Description of Robert:

6 ft tall. Slim (150 lbs?). Short brown hair. Hazel eyes.
Clothes we think he was wearing:
MEC fleece jacket
Short-sleeved shirt with buttons
Brown leather shoes, the stitching was coming undone on the front of one
Blue bike helmet
Backpack: MEC, blue with purple trim

Robert was riding a blue Raleigh "Cliffhanger" bike (mountain frame with road tires). The seat post was long, i.e. the seat was high. You can see pictures of Robert if you click on the link at the bottom of the website posted.

Maybe its because this family is British......or maybe its because I have boys of my own that go off on their bikes...........but this story really touched me and so please PLEASE keep an eye out for Robert...................

Lets hope he is home with his family soon.................his parents looked sooooooo scared and worried on the news this morning...understandably............

They are all in my thoughts.

Abigail joins me for a stroll...............

Abigail was outside playing her recorder when I went out to walk the dogs, so she joined me for a walk and happily posed for some pictures :)

A captive audience..................

Rosie sat and watched the girls playing their recorders this evening.......she looked impressed :)

A summer evening.................

The evening sun shining across our back field.....................

Tuesday ramblings................

Last night was lovely..........once the house was quiet, Lloyd and I sat out on the porch drinking tea (how English is THAT???? lol! It wasn't orange pekoe thats for sure...........what IS that stuff????)
We watched the storm clouds rolling in and then WOW the wind just hit and it got really cold.......I took the throw outside with me but it was just too cold in the end and too windy........so we headed inside.

The winds must have been really strong because the lid of Sams water table was over by the barn this morning and the hummingbird feeder was empty....there were splatters of sugar water all over the porch!!! So I have made another mixture up and its cooling ready to go in...but my poor little hummingbirds haven't had any food from us today...................

Thunder woke me up last night....I only heard it once and fell back to sleep so I don't know if it rained here or not...it didn't look as though it had outside this morning......

Chris decided he didn't want to go out today so offered to babysit Sam......Sam had been up since 6am so it worked out ideal! I took the others and headed into town. We picked up Lauries friends (the twins) and took them to the homeschool group...stopping off for a big box of mini donuts for everyone at the group on the way.

HS group was nice........because Sam wasn't with me I got to just stand and chat which made a nice change......L came with her DD Susies age and so Susie went off happily playing....she took my camera for a while so I have some pictures of D to send to L..............Laurie and his friends played soccer and then made little movies with my camera of 'Sasquatch'...a story where they chased Abigail around the field and parking lot mainly...there were some good special effects though (we won't mention the fact that one scene ends with Abigail 'mooning' the camera GULP!!!)

Christie turned up! I was chatting and someone came and stood beside me but It didn't register who it was lol! Then she moved in front of me and I'm like 'Oh wow Christies here'.........so it was nice to catch up with her and basically we spent the whole time chatting about nothing much...like how big headed Linda Steele is and how Johnny Depp could just walk in the hall at any moment.....and useful stuff like language resources and whether its better to have a DH who acts like a mole leaving clutter in piles dotted about (Lloyd) or whether you should have one who just 'scatters' clutter (L's DH)...............

A little blonde girl ...beautiful little girl....kept coming over to us and then came over and gave me a huge hug...she's a sweetheart but I am not sure whose DD she is!!!

I had a picture in my head of Christies MIL but now Christie has described her the picture is totally wrong!!! CHristie I need to see a picture now lol!

After homeschool group I drove the twins home and Laurie ended up staying and is sleeping over again there tonight (and they say homeschooled children don't socialise!! Ha!) - the boys are sleeping here Friday night and I may suggest they come to MP with us Thursday.......

Because I only had the girls with me I decided to take them out for lunch.......that was nice and Susie had a hge plate of her ufavourite chinese food! We ran some errands at the mall and strolled around Chapters where I got a couple of magazines and the girls chose one each too..............

We went to the library and the girls played the summer game...it ends this week.....we will have to go in on Thursday to see if we can finish the game before it ends......

Finally after the library we headed home.......Chris and Sam were fine.......they'd had a fun morning..............

Samantha phoned and reminded me there is a party in the park this evening....Sh had asked if I was going too, but I'm just too tired to venture far tonight........Samantha also said she was putting in an order for Avon so I ordered another 20 of my deodorants....Avon roll-ons are the only ones I'm not allergic to. Samantha is working at the party tonight....she dresses up like a clown and does balloon modelling etc...shes just fAB with little children.....

So Lloyd is home now......we've had dinner and I am going to go out and walk the dogs...so far today I have done 11,450 steps......I found my step counter!!!!!!! So I am going out to add some steps to my number for the day!!!

Tomorrow I am having a quiet day at home YAY!!! And Christie is coming over after lunch to scrapbook....woohoo I may get a page or two done...I hope!!! I am so behind!!

Oh and this morning before I got up I wrote some more of the letter that I started last night to Carla!!!

And I forgot to add that Susie got a letter from one of her penpals yesterday.....a little girl who lives in the north of England.......she enclosed a picture of herself at her first communion! Very sweet!

I bought raspberries today again.......so we will sit and have a bowl of them with ice cream tonight! Yum!

I haven't taken any pcitures today......the children took a few at the HS group this morning but I don't liek to add pictures of other peoples children unless I know they won't mind....so I think I will take my camera with me while I walk the dogs.......

Watch this space :)

Hello Joanne and Edith!!!

A quick hello to the people at Lloyds work who read my blog :)

Be careful reading my blog...just in case it makes you fall asleep at your desk ;)

Oh, and if you can't find Lloyd he's probably in Second Cup! Whenever I speak to him he always seems to be having a coffee............does he ever do any work?????? ;)

Good morning, good morning to you!

I am singing that song from the Viagra commercial :)

I am feeling good this morning...a little sleepy but good :)
Busy day, busy day!!!!

Have a great day everyone...what are you all up to??????
