Busy weekend.....
We seem to have crammed a lot into this weekend...and I have a ton of pictures to add.....
Where to start?
Yesterday I went to the mall with Mom to do some shopping. Chris and Oliver came and went off to do there own thing....we went into Cotton Ginny and I bought two pairs of shorts - I figure if this weather is here to stay then I may as well buy some shorts to enjoy it in!
While we were in there, the Manager noticed Moms Marks and Spencer shopping bag.....so we started talking about the UK (she lived there for a year) and then she mentioned she had just hired a British girl who was terribly homesick....so she introduced us to her and we were there chatting for ages.....
She's 17 and misses her Grandmother very much....she has had to go into High School despite the fact she was 2 weeks off leaving school in the UK.......she was very sweet and I kept telling her to give it 3 years.....they say it takes 3 years before you feel like a place is home and the homesickness goes......
After shopping we went to pick Laurie up from his sleepover....came home and I mde cool veggie pizza for supper......
Around 8pm we packed everything into the car and headed off to Elk Island Park.....we lit a fire by Astotin Lake and made S'mores while the boys played soccer and the girls played on the climbing frames at the playground....
We stayed there until 11:30pm and then drove down towards Tawayik Lake....there we watched the stars for a while after watching a herd of bison creep through the picnic area...when we got back to the truck, we saw MORE bison by the parking lot ...they had probably been watching us.....we waited for them to walk on and we continued to watch the stars....I saw a shooting star!
All of a sudden we heard something RUNNING through the trees at us!! So we all dived into the truck! It didn't come out of the trees though so we got back out....
It was a very late night but fun being in Elk Island in the dark again...we haven't done that for so long!
This morning we were all tired from our late night, but we got up and took Mom to the Devonian Botanical Gardens........it was very warm...around 28c but it was cloudy so it was perfect...it didn't feel too hot at all!
We strolled through the Japanese gardens....rang the Friendship bell......enjoyed the butterfly house......had ice creams by the cafe......walked by the duck pond and the girls had fun in the maze.....tasted plants in the edible garden and waved to the Bride that passed us on her way to her wedding marquee.............
Once we got home, I had to drive Susie about an hour to her friends home where she is sleeping over....when we got there, her friend was in their pool...luckily I had suggested Susie take her swim suit...so she was happy to get changed and join in the fun....I'll pick her up tomorrow afternoon....
Got home and Lloyd and I made butter chicken for dinner with poppadoms...everyone loved it.....
Then Lloyd and I went for a ride on his quad bike (mine is still broken boohoo)
Now I am catching up with my blog then I plan to go and shower and get ready for bed and read some more of the Jane Green novel I'm reading.....Swapping Lives.......
Ok so I will add some pictures from this weekend!
I hope you all had a fun weekend! What did you all get up to?
Oh and next weekend I am doing NOTHING!!!!!! Just relaxing at home :)

Breakfast for 11.......

Yesterday morning we met Val and some of her crew for breakfast....there were 11 of us in all and it was so much fun! Grace wasn't there which was a shame (especially as the girl overcharged us for everything!!!)
The 4 boys sat together at one table and the rest of us were at another.......it really was a great breakfast :)
This pic is from my cell phone so it isn't very clear...
Fire...
Edmontons largest ever fire is still burning.....a condo block (condoms as my Mom calls them lol) and 9 houses totally destroyed......and 18 others damaged.....
So many homeless families in a city that is already struggling with homelessness....
And the homes burned are townhomes....and I guess I should never assume but I am sure that many of them won't have contents insurance.....when finances are tight its the contents insurance that is often the first to get cancelled.......
Terribly sad........but thankfully no one died.....

The Illusionist......
What a FABULOUS movie......so passionate and so clever and I really didn't guess the ending at all...which is a sign of a great movie because I always seem to know how they will end!!!
I love Edward Norton - he seems to pick the movies he does really well and they are always so good - such a great actor!
I was sat on the bed reading last night and Lloyd started to watch The Illusionist...well within a couple of minutes I had put the book down and was GLUED to the tv watching the movie!
TOTALLY recommend this movie!

Its a go....finally!
After not being able to get any answers from ANYONE and having banged my head against the wall several times (lol) I finally FINALLY managed to get soem answers about the preschool job today.....
A 1 1/2 hour phone call with my friend who has worked for the County for the last 4 years got all my questions answered.......
So I am going to stay with the Lead Instructor of the preschool and I WILL be teaching preschool this Fall...and I WILL make a difference to this class and to the children in my care.....
I may disagree with the organization of classes in the area.....I may disagree with how teachers are found and employed...BUT I know that my classes will be well organized, well run and the a great learning environment for the children who take part :)
I am feeling so much happier now that I know what is going on!

The heat...
This heat is insane...it is so humid it is unreal and yet we ahve not had a really good storm to blow it all away......
Everyone is talking tornadoes because it is just so so hot....weeks of temperatures around and above 30c......little or no rain.....just heat and sun and more heat....
I just don't think I could cope without a/c...even with a/c this heat makes it impossible to enjoy life outdoors....even indoors you don't feel like doing much even with the a/c....
And every day we have to check the forecast for storm warnings and tornado warnings..
Everyone is talking about the weather...and even at the garage sale tonight the lady was saying that we should all watch out for tomorrow....because there is a good chance there will be a tornado tomorrow - there are a lot of warnings to be sky aware and for thunderstorms...and the longer this heat continues, the more chance we have of a big tornado.....
Susan - if you are reading this I just want to say I am thinking of you - I just can't imagine being heavily pregnant in this heat.....I hope you are finding ways to keep you and bump cool, calm and collected!

Fitness challenge.....
Forgot to say that I posted about last nights fitness challenge on my other blog....running to mickey - you can get to it by clicking the link on the right of my blog.....
My leg is hurting badly because of it today...it hurts a LOT to walk......but I got through the day.....the challenge was fun though - so glad we joined in!

Jasper sleeping.......
A few pics of Jasper taken a little while ago as he sleeps on my big chair....
The children haven't been too bad the last few days so I am hoping HOPING that either they are used to him or the allergy symptoms were just coincidental when he arrived! I don't want to have to say goodbye to him :( so hopefully this means we can keep him - everyone is so attached to him already!
tea cup....for raspberry tea???????
Thursday...
I am sat here waiting for 6pm as at 6pm we are heading off to some local garage sales......the boys have cycled to the store - probably to buy junk but at least they are out on the bikes having fun!
We've had a nice day......Mom, Olly and I went to Joey Tomatoes for lunch....Oliver seemed to like it! Our server was so nice and I don't think Olly could quite believe that she kept replacing his coke even though he'd only had a few sips! I had a Viva Salad and then had the chocolate lava souffle for dessert...
After Joeys we strolled around the dollar store there and then drove down to the thrift stores.....I'm really pleased with what I got there....a ton of clothes that the girls are thrilled with (they had a fashion show for us when they got home and now the clothes are in the machine to be washed!)...some tshirts for Laurie. I picked up 4 like-new Barbie dolls and 3 like-new Ken dolls for them...and some little dolls too...not sure of the make but they were sweet and I knew the girls would love them...
For me I bought a plate with the seasons on the front......and a pretty tea cup with raspberries on it......I'll photograph them....oh and a plant pot with Fall leaves on it.....its in a stand.
I also got a like-new copy of Nigella Lawsons latest recipe book......my new island will have a book case in the end and I want to put my recipe books in it. I got a few little cars and a brand new box of Crayola crayons for Sam too......
So yes, I am happy with my loot ;) and the girls have been happily playing on their top bunk with the dolls since I got back!
I wonder what treats are in store at the garage sales tonight!
