Our Tuesday....

Our day started off with reading two Easter stories:

And coming to terms with the fact that my bedside table is a real mess 

and desperately needs sorting out!

I got online to a nagging message from my friend Trish.....who seems to think I should make the first move when it comes to a guy I like.  I think she thinks I should have been with him all along instead of chasing after hopeless idiots elsewhere...

Abby went on a playdate today in the North end of the city, and so we had a bit of a drive around....because of my new medications I can't drive, so Laurence kindly drove for me.  I was able to snap a few interesting sights out of the window.  Like the Worlds Largest baseball Bat:

We stopped at Lumberjacks for lunch and I coloured Sams colouring page:

Then to fill in time, and as we have annual membership, we figured we would make the most of it and go tot he science centre for a few hours.  It was lovely and quiet there thankfully.  In fact the lady on the desk smiled and said 'the class there was just leaving so it is about to be even quieter'  :)

We checked out the new exhibit on health and fitness and the body:

Then spent the rest of the time in the Discovery Zone, playing with water, bricks and role-playing in the airplane:

I had to play Sir crew and serve the pilots with their drinks....sigh.....

But the pilot DID also have to refuel :

Afterwards we went to pick Abby up from her playdate and she had had a fabulous time - they had made potions and Abigails was 'Unicorn Pee'...but at least it smelt good :)  it was all glittery and perfumery and had little bits in it and herbs :)  

All in all a great day for a everyone I think :)  

Tomorrow I start my new round of art journaling classes for children called 'Bring on the Colour' and I really looking forward to that!!!  :)  

Then park day with friends in the afternoon - but they forecast a winter storm so I am hoping that the park day is still able to go ahead!!!  

Sam is loving his phonics and reading videos we are using from the library - we keep changing them each day and he is doing so well!  I am so proud!  We MUST remember to take their pizza slices tomorrow to get their free pizza's!!

So funny..and yet soooo true!! :)

Paper Airplane Olympics...

Today we took part in the 'paper airplane olympics' in town - we met up with a whole lot of other homeschool families.  We were each sent a plane design to learn and prepare, and then had to set up when we got there and be ready to teach that design to other families and children.

Our plane was actually the most difficult was was for ages 10+ but I thought it was fine.  It also holds the world record for staying in the air.  It is called The Champ :) 

It was a fun afternoon...the children go to try all kinds of different planes, helicopters, and flight modules....and we had rented a big sports hall at Millennium place for the afternoon so we could fly them all like crazy :)  

After the flight olympics we all met in the food court for a break and to plan the rest of our week - which include a park day and a swim session.  I also have two art classes.  Abigail has a play date with a friend tomorrow and I have a trip to either the zoo or science centre - depending on what my little man wants to opt for!!  Hmmm maybe the airplane museum if its open.  I wonder....

Self Portrait

Little me.  At 40.  No make up, because I never really wear any make up.  

Kind of please with my skin, its smooth and soft and very few lines :)  

I get told a lot that I don't look 40 and that I don't look as though I have 5 children and especially old enough to have one in college :)

I think it comes from feeling happy and calm much of the time.  Apart from the occasional stress brought on by the divorce and the issues around that, my life is pretty calm and relaxed and I'm happy about that.  

I think stress really does show on your face - as does unhappiness.

Our Saturday!! Roller Derby!!

We woke up in the hotel and had the continental breakfast that was included.  

We asked for the late checkout (1pm) so we didn't have to rush)  Love that you can check out at 1pm free of charge)!!  

We went to the pool for a swim/ the hot tub and had the place to ourselves.  

After a while we headed back to out room and packed...then went home to check on Rosie.

Then headed to Whyte Ave for a few errands and to pick up the tickets for the Roller Derby.  They are $5 less each if you buy them there as opposed to at the door, and it's a nice excuse to go to Whyte Ave.

Home again for a few hours rest and a nap, before we headed over to the West End to watch the Roller derby.  Very exciting match and fun atmosphere.  Kids loved it.  Susannah is interesterd in joining a youth league now, so we might look in to that now.  It was a fun evening and I think we will definitely go again in a few weeks with Abby and Sam:  

Afterwards we dropped Laurence at his friends place and then we headed home and were soon fast asleep - and today we have slept the day away - which we must have needed!!  Wow!  

But it has been a fun Spring Break for all, that is for sure :) 

Just goes to show that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a LOT of fun with kids or all ages!   I feel really happy with my budgeting and the plans I made for our week off of school :)

Our Thursday - Springbreak continues :)

This was the view from our hotel window last night:

Continental breakfast was included in the deal we had, and so we woke up in time to go down to the breakfast room.  The children loved being able to help themselves to whatever they liked.  Toast, bagels, cold cereals, muffins, fruit, tea, coffee, hot chocolates, juices......it was fairly busy and lots of children...so t wasn't so bad that Sam was his usual chatty self  :)  

One lady came over and told me that she couldn't believe how much like her friend I looked and she had found it strange as she was in Edmonton to meet up with her and hadn't seen her for a while and then saw me and was like WOW she thought it was her :)  

Abby was tired but still wanted to go to the pool.  It is a great hotel as they let you check out late - at 1pm instead of 11am - so we got to sue the pool again in the morning :)  Abby relaxed in the hot tub for a while before going for a swim:

I took Susannah's phone away for a day last week and made her read a book - it has got her back in to reading again and now she constantly had her head in a book :)  Yay!  she has been reading constantly ALL week which is lovely to see:

Sa and Abby had so much fun in the pool and made several friends while we were there with children who were staying at the hotel:

Today was a gorgeous sunny Spring day.  13c.

We headed home by lunchtime to check on Laurence.  his friends had already left to go home and he was relaxing.  Abigail made some grapefruit juice from the juicer we got at Ikea.  I ate half a grapefruit out on the deck in the sunshine.  Mmmmmm :)

Then we left Susannah and Laurence at home and headed to Park day to meet up with friends at Broadmoor Lake playground.  The first homeschool park day of the year for us :)  I chatted with my friends and Abby and Sam spent the afternoon cycling and playing and chatting with theirs :)  They like taking their bikes to the park.  Sam loves being able to cycle now:

Tomorrow they head off to their dads for the weekend and I have plans for my big two :)  

It's going to be a good weekend :)
