Road trip to Calgary...

We headed south today, to Calgary, where we are staying overnight ready for Laurences interview at SAIT tomorrow.  The roads were lovely and quiet the whole way down - there was a bit of fog some of the way, but nothing too bad thankfully, and the hotel was easy to find.  I picked one that had a pool and includes breakfast - which makes things so much easier.  

Of course the first thing we did once we arrived was have coffee and then hit the pool and hot tub:

And I remembered the mini moustache tattoos that we had been given at the highschool open house last night, so I used one and had my picture taken with everyone:  

fish chaos!!

When we lived at the old house we couldn't keep fish as our water was very salted or distilled.  I always said when we moved back in to town then we could get fish, so finally this month we headed to the store to get a small tank and a couple of goldfish.  Turns out it isn't as easy to buy goldfish any more - there are rules about tank size and number of fish you can have....the first day we went the girl sold us a tiny tank and said we could set it up with the water and go back in 24 hours to get the fish we wanted.

So we went back the next day and they refused to sell us goldfish saying the tank we had was too small AND the water has to be left for three days minimum.  

I was NOT happy as the original girl knew what fish we wanted and had discussed tank size and fish with us - so I complained and the manage came over - she was very apologetic and said she would GIVE us the 10 gallon tank AND would give us the fish for free if we took the tank and then came back three days later for them!  

So we left with a free 10 gallon tank on Friday - and yesterday we went back and finally got one goldfish and three minnows.  They said the tank was STILL a bit small but should be ok so long as we don't add more fish.  

Anyway the fish seem very happy in their new tank - and Rosie and Lily are VERY interested in these new residents :)

Highschool Open House

It is open house season at the high schools in town, and Susannah is still undecided as to which school is right for her.  Last night we went to the new Catholic school that is close to our house.  It opened in September and seemed very nice for the most part.

By the entrance there is a HUGE portrait of Jesus Christ - and his eyes follow you as you walk around - Susie was creeped out by it lol so I had fun reminding her that he will always be watching her:

International Womens Day

Thoughout March one of my photographs is part of an Exhibition at the Sherwood Park library and community centre.  The pictures in the exhibit are supposed to display women and strength.  As well as having a print of my image matted and displayed, my image is also part of an ongoing slideshow.

The Magic Treehouse

Every night for the last few weeks, Sam and I have set off on an adventure with Jack and Annie - up into the old treehouse, and off into the lands of old times.  We meet dinosaurs and Knights, Mummies and pirates and crocodiles....we are discovering the great stories within The Magic Treehouse series of books.  Most of them come with Fact Trackers too - a separate book with non fiction information about the things Jack and Annie find.  

The books are linked to a website where Sam can join in with more adventures and games.  

We read several chapters a night and often Sam will ask me to keep reading.  

We're really enjoying this series!!!

Yum!!

Laurence was bored on Friday night.  The house was quiet as Sam and Abby were at their Dads house - Susannah had two friends staying over but they had gone to the movies, and I was resting upstairs and reading.  So he took over the kitchen and did some baking.  

He baked some chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate chip cookie base - and then he frosted them with an orange flavoured frosting and sprinkled with a few sugar pearls.  

DELICIOUS!!!

I've seen parts of me I never thought I'd see lol....
