Whats your take? Why do you blog? Why do I blog?????? Hmmmm I started blogging a few years back and found it was the easiest way to stay in touch with family and friends back home....especially those still on dial-up rather than sending them emails with pictures.......

The same is true now.....but as we are homeschooling I find it is the best way of keeping a 'diary' of our unschooling days.....more and more families are choosing to use online diaries and blogs as portfolios for their facilitators. Its also a great way of showing family and friends how this unschooling malarky actually works day to day...and great proof that OMG my kids actually DO socialise!!!!!! And despite not doing formal work they DO learn!!!!! ;)

Monday mayhem

Chris had an exam this morning...he is now done with the schoolboard YAY!!!! Free to be himself and learn what HE wants to learn......they are having an award ceremony on Thursday evening...for honours students to receive their awards...... that will be nice...I think I will go just with Chris and will take him out for supper afterwards!

He has (very wisely) decided not to commit to Leaders in Training this year.....he has so much voluntary work lined up already that he won't have any time for himself if he isn't careful......summer at his age should be about making memories and having fun and relaxing :) 35 hours a week seems an awful lot of work for his age. So he said he plans to sign up next year instead.

While he was in his exam I took the others to the mall and met S for coffee.....that was nice :) and then we did some shopping......finally found shorts for Susie and some shirts for Chris for working at the museum.........I also bought Laurie a t-short that reads 'Stop annoying my parents! - Thats my job!' which he loves.

Lloyd is going in to the Ford garage this afternoon to see if they can fit the 7th seatbelt into the F350..........and also to see about swapping my truck for the F350. Thats one step towards getting the 5th wheel......the RV place won't find out any news about it until Wednesday so we figured we'd find out about the truck first...

Lloyd is trying to find accommodation in Drumheller for a couple of days. No luck yet though.

I am camping out with the girls tonight...I don't think the boys want to tonight....but the girls are keen......should be fun :)

Lloyd phoned a short while ago and after he rang off I got an email from him saying he had forgotten to tell me 'I Love You'.......awwwww how did I get so lucky?????

This week that started off with so few plans seems to be filling up really fast. In fact I don't think I have a quiet day now until Sunday....and maybe not even until next Wednesday!!!! I think we are either out or have people here every day for the next 10 days.

Oh and I MUST get to the scrapbook store and get a gift for my Mom...its her birthday next week so I have to mail it by Wednesday!

How true!

We were at the mall this morning and saw a magnet that read:

Supper Al Fresco

So last night we ate outside.....it was really nice....no flies even!!! And total privacy....noone looking out of their wondows at us or out on their decks across the fence so you feel you HAVE to make small talk.....it was just us!!! Me and mine!!!!

We wrapped potatos in foil and threw them into the fire...they were wonderful!!!! A lovely cheese salad to go with them...and smores for dessert made with Caramilk...I think I swiped that idea from D (thank you!!!) the kids loved them...and as you can see from the pic Sam loved the caramilk!!

Abigail still calls marshmallows Smar-smallows which sounds really cute.....her vocab is fab for most things so I am clinging to this reminder that she is ONLY 4....not even 4 and a half yet!

Camera Thief!!!

Chris found my point and shoot camera under Abigails pillow this morning.......I guess she had 'borrowed' it last night! She obviously knew how to use it and also how to switch it off afterwards because the battery wasn't flat and she took several pictures.......You can tell that she just lay in her bed clicking away because thats the angle most of the pictures are taken from.....and she also rolled over and took some of her floor.

This morning their oom looked as though a bomb had exploded in it - such a mess!!! So they stayed cool inside this afternoon and tidied it :) I can at least walk to the window without fearing for my life now!

I thought these pictures of Abigails were just too cute not to save anyway :) and at least she didn't 'borrow' my Nikon ;)

My girls

Rosie and Amber don't like the heat so we cooled them off regularly with the hose......hence the fact Rosie has a cute crimped hair-do!!!! And as you can see, Rsie is never far from her baseball.......she loves 'fetch' even in the heat!

Water fun!

I was sat just beside the pool and Sam had so much fun pouring cold water all over my feet. I kept squealing each time he did it and he thought it was hilarious!!!!

Butterfly delight

The Bugs of Alberta book says that when you see the White Admiral butterfly, it means that school is almost finished for the year. How apt!!!

This beautiful butterfly was fluttering around for a while this afternoon.....it perched on the water table for a while and let me take its picture......a few minutes later Rosie caught it mid flight and ate it........

Nature...will I ever get used to it?

The tent is up!

The tent is up....Laurie and Lloyd put it up this afternoon. It didn't take long at all :) Sam had a blast running about in it!

Wondrous Water

Water. I love it. I could happily be a fish. There is nothing I like more than splashing about in an outdoor pool...any pool is wonderful but outdoor pools..the smell, the colour.......the sounds!!!! Oh wow they just remind me of summer evenings as a child spent swimming in the pool until late.....until my skin was so wrinkled I resembled a prune......until I was so cold my lips were blue.....and even then I would stand in the middle of the pool and refuse to get out, knowing only too well that my parents couldn't swim and so couldn't get me out!!!

My favourite colour is turquoise....aquamarine...the colour of swimming pools and water.....

The picture above represents summer to me.....summer fun and happiness.....and many many memories of good times with friends over the years.......playing 'miss world' around the edge, pretending to be jaws.....pretending to play 'Its a Knockout' on inflatables.......of George (the filter even had a name!!!) and of hot chocolate to warm up afterwards.......

Even now when I am upset or angry I retreat to the bath for several hours...often emptying the tub when its cold only to refill it again and stay in.

Water......I love it.

Hot potato

It's hot. Very hot. The potatoes are on the fire ...yum! I'm craving ploughmans pickle......wish they sold it here.......maybe a trip to WEM is in order - to the British Import store......summer should include Ploughmans pickle!!

The girls and Sam are outside - they have filled the sandbox with water so its a slushy mess and are making sand pies and lakes and rivers for their toys.....messy fun but they can wash off in the paddling pool and then pile up for baths.......

Everyone helped Lloyd put up the tent earlier.....not sure if anyone is camping out tonight or whether we'll just air it tonight.

A few more pictures from our Sunday. The dandelion season seems to have ended and our pasture is now covered in the sweetest smelling clovers of all shades of pink and purple.....the hum of bees amongst it is incredible and the smell intoxicating. I tried to find the family of grouse in the woods but they weren't around. As you walk through the clover, dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies of all kinds fly up......Lloyd spotted a large White Admiral this afternoon.
