Worlds oldest human being dies.....

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7147254.stm

He never married because he was short and had no money......lol I guess all women in the Ukraine are money grabbing and shallow lol!

I like that he used to run through the grass barefoot :)

A visit with Santa in Wonderland!

On Friday we went over to West Edmonton Mall as Lloyd had some alterations to collect from Harry Rosens.

While we were there, we took Abigail and Sam to meet Santa...at first there was a long line up and after a couple of minutes Abigail decided she didn't want to meet Santa anyway! So we went off and had something to eat, and then when we were going back there was no line at all and Abigail said she'd now like to go! So we went straight in and Abigail sat on santa and told him she was hoping to get Baby Alive! (Baby Alive, by the way, is a really FUGLY doll with Bratz style big eyes that you can feed and then she poops in her own disposable diapers (yuck - like I need to be buying more diapers groooan).

Sam wanted to LOOK at Santa but there was NO WAY he was going anywhere near that weird looking guy in red! Not even would he be bribed with Cadburys choccy buttons from the British Import Store OR a giant chocolate chip cookie from BP's.....So we only have Abigail in the picture! Oh and the white mad hair-do is actually Santas hat!

The Santa 'set' is the one used in the movie 'Christmas in Wonderland' - the mall kept it up for this years Santa :) Not that you can see much of it in the picture!

3o year old Fairy.....

Lloyds Mom sent us over the fairy that graced the top of their tree for the past 30 years.....she is now gracing the top of the childrens tree :) She looks pretty good for her age ;) Actually to me she looks a bit like Terry! (Lloyds Mom)!

Stunning!

Some AMAZING pictures of the ice storm that hit the US earlier this week.......as nasty as ice storms are, they are undoubtedly very beautiful!

Parents never seem to share the blame.....

www.cbc.ca/canada/edmonton/story/2007/12/14/westjet-girl.html?ref=rss

This story was on the local news yesterday and just makes me shake my head......of course the first thing from some people at LP is 'Sue the f*ckers' sigh.....but what I want to know is when will parents start to take some blame for what happens to their children???? It seems it is NEVER the parents fault.....doesn't matter the situation, its always someone elses fault!

But my thoughts are "who the HELL puts a 5 year old on a plane with a stop over ALONE??????????? What if something was to happen? What if a situation occurred with bad weather/ engine problems/ severe turbulence......fire/ hijacking....ANYTHING slightly out of the ordinary????? That child would want a parent there...there are no if's or buts!!!! Geez, my 12 year old would want a parent there!

I think its insane and I think these parents are simply trying to ease some of their own guilt by blaming the airline! Surely if you are planning for your child to go and visit another parent...or have your child come and stay with you, you PLAN, you SAVE and you PRIORITISE the cost of an extra seat for yourself to fly WITH your FIVE YEAR OLD!!!!!

And the ideas of comparing having a 5 year old flying across the country with a stopover on her own to putting her in daycare is INSANE.....for a start, in a daycare situation (hopefully) your child builds up a relationship with the care-givers - they know them - they are not strangers they have just met! If something happens in a daycare situation the care giver is able to comfort the child much better because they KNOW that child..the child KNOWS the caregiver and can more easily be comforted and feel secure. comparing a daycare situation with a child being left on two flights (4 with returns) with flight attendants who the child has never met before that day is just ridiculous in my opinion. In a daycare setting, the child is surrounded by children he/ she knows and in a familiar place where they feel secure (if this is not the case then it is not a good daycare and the parents should not be using it)!

I am not willing to get into a debate on LP about this, so I am posting MY thoughts on MY blog.....feel free to disagree but this is my blog and I can post what I like :)

Our new lollipop tree.....

I've wanted a proper lollipop tree for years, in the past some years we never managed to find time to make one and storing one for a year hasn't worked in the past. I wanted to find a tree we could use every year to become our official lollipop tree. Today in Hallmark I fell in love with this little guy - its so pretty in its little red bucket! Such a lovely colour for its needles :) Love it! So I snapped it up and now Susie is decorating it with the chocolate ornaments and we will add some mini candy canes later too...

I just wish chocolate ornaments came with the strings already attached! Not even the pricier Purdy's ones we bought came with any! grrrrrr!

Ruths Chris cheesecake..

So this is a Ruths Chris cheesecake....Lloyd brought it home for me on Thursday night after having lunch there. It was HUGE...so we had half each buut even half was too much! It was ok...very creamy, but not much flavour to it.....considering how pricey that place is, I think I would order something else next time!! I mean, for that price surely there should be some chocolate on it SOMEWHERE ;)

A picture sent...

I sent this picture over to Lesley, who owns Amber and Rosies Mom, Hocus,..... as a little 'Happy Christmas email'. I think I will frame this picture of my girls....

Clever boy ;)

I found out yesterday that Lloyd has a post it note stuck to his monitor at work and on it he writes down things I mention that I like or would like for Christmas and ideas he gets...then he does his shopping for me for Christmas from this list :)

Awwwww I love you Lloyd :)

He's not home yet :( I miss him - so I am extra glad he is off tomorrow!

Dad - take a hint from Lloyd and start keeping a list of gift ideas for Mom!

ooooh he just told me its waaaaaaay bigger than a post it note lol :) although he does say that that doesn't mean its full up ;)

Nodding furiously!!!!

Treasure hidden beneath......

Archeology dig....

S and A LOVE these little toys that are just from the dollar store! Its like a block of hard sand that they get to scrape away at with little chisels, hammers and brushes until they discover the treasure inside! We have done these MANY times before and they will spend ages at the table dusting the sand away to find what is inside!

cookie decorating....

Decorating gingerbread men yesterday...

Wednesday and Thursday

This week is going fast!

Yesterday we went into town for Parentlink....it was nice to see Samantha and chat and have coffee.....circle time was fun as the children all had musical instruments and got to follow Samantha around the building singing Jing Bells...they all played hide and seek too :)

After parentlink we went to the mall to buy some felt....we also had lunch there again :) We got home just in time to meet Susannahs bus and we beat the bad weather back from town....literally by minutes....by the time the bus pulled up, the weather was soooo nasty!

Chris went to a birthday/ leaving party last night....straight from school. It was held at Birch Bay Ranch (the place where Susie and Laurie are going to summer camp next year) and the party included a sleigh ride and decorating gingerbread houses.

Laurence went back to his friend Chris's house (JQ's Nephew/ cousin....relative of some kind lol - I don't remember exactly and the Son of Abigails dance teacher!) they were working on a science project together which included setting off fire works and videoing it...he's going there again today after school. They have kindly offered to drop him home on their way out this evening :)

Lloyd left work early last night but because of the bad weather it took him 1 1/2 hours to get home! The roads were soooo bad out there and many trucking companies took all their fleet off the roads....many cars in the ditch around the place and collisions etc.....not good.

Lloyd was ill last night - he had chilli for lunch yesterday but didn't eat much of it as it didn't taste right - well it made him sick :( poor thing.....but this morning he didn't feel too bad so he still went into work! Good thing too as he just called me to say he was taken out to lunch (again - this happens a few times a week) but this time it was to Ruths Chris steak house!!!! OMG that is sooooooo NOT FAIR....I've wanted to go there since it opened!!! It is soooo expensive (they do a $99 steak there and you have to pay for all your sides separately! Its in an old bank and they still have the old vaults and everything in there......anyway I am soooo green with envy but he's promised to take me there for my birthday :) Many people won't eat there because they only servce American beef and not Alberta beef!

Oh and the Mayor of Edmonton was at the table next to his! Geez...yesterday he walked down the street with Angus Watt (financial guy from Global tv) and today he lunches next to the Mayor lol!!!!!

He bought me cheesecake from there though and its in a little Ruths Chris bag so I will look forward to that tonight!

But then Lloyd won't be home until around 9pm as he is going to a leaving party/ dinner after work at Druids pub downtown.....what a job he has!!! party, party, party!!!!

Not that I can complain really...this morning was breakfast with Val and we had a few extras today - I invited Lucy - the lady that did the crafts at the Christmas party......and Val brought her daughter and her GRANDSON!!!!!!!! Yes, I got to see the new baby!!! And Vals littlest guy was also there - and he barely recognised me as its been so long since I saw him! :( Oh and guess what Lucy's Moms name is....Jane Emma!!!!!!! How funny is that?????? :) And Lucy was telling us how she was named after a scullery maid who practically raised her Grandmother! :) I love stories like that!

Grace was as wonderful as ever! She set Abigail to work putting creamers on all the tables and one guy having his breakfast kept stealing them all from Abby - it was funny :) Sam just ran about the place causing chaos as always - and stealing fortune cookies while Grace was distracted :) I hope Grace knows how much we appreciate her!!!!

After breakfast I was going to go straight home, but I decided to save Lloyd a trip to Walmart tonight, and I went instead......Chris and Laurence are taking part in a secret santa swap and Chris told me LAST NIGHT at 9pm!!!!! that he needs the gifts for tomorrow!!! So I ran in and got some nice things for him to give out....I ran in to 'toxic friend' who actually didn't seem so toxic (although this is why she IS toxic...because she is always so nice and this is how I get sucked into it all again...so I have to tell myself do NOT email her...do NOT arrange to meet up again....DO NOT do anything except be friendly when you run into each other......anyway we chatted for a while and she gave me some good ideas for the gifts I was there to pick up.

I bought Lloyd a box of Ferrero Rocher as he keeps saying he wants some every time the commercial comes on.....and I bought some more buttons :)

Then we headed home and the children did their archeology dig things....now they are watching a movie waiting for Chris and Susie to get home...

Easy supper tonight - vegetable spring rolls with rice......easy peasy....then I think I will sew or scrapbook Glendas latest dare....

Tomorrow Lloyd has the day OFF woohoo!!!!! :) Can't wait :) 3 day weekend!

Have a great evening everyone!

Gingerbread men......

Chris and Laurie were out yesterday after school, so we picked Susie up from the bus stop and then the three here all sat at the table and decorated gingerbread men :) As you can see Sam ate more than he decorated...and left a lot of it stuck around his mouth :)
