We bought several workbooks on Saturday at Scholars Choice...A has always loved workbooks - they were supposed to be for 'schooldays' when the older children are in school, but A hasn't put them down since....one is almost completes and the other books have many pages already completed.....they are simple pages I must admit....A needs to work out single digit addition or subtraction sums to figure out which colour she needs to colour the picture...or she needs to read the sentence and then change certain words to plurals or fill in the missing word etc etc.....
She loves this kind of thing and even sits up way after bedtime to do some!
The good thing with these books is that they involve reading, writing AND math in the same page.....so even though she asks to do 'math' she is doing LA too :)
This morning at 8am she bursts into my room asking to play the 'math game'. We bought a new game called Countdown...its a wooden game and can be as simple or as complicated as you like. We sat on the bed and played with S...in fact S won the first round! You throw the dice and then depending on the sum of the dice you can knock certain numbers off of your side...the first with all their numbers knocked down wins.....we did simple addition - it's a good game for getting you to speed up your counting skills and learn to recognise sums just by looking at the dice quickly instead of counting.
Yesterday the school sent home all of A's supplies. Today they phoned to say the fees will be refunded and they are sending home her school pictures for us to order.
We also got her latest book order through yesterday - so this afternoon we will sit and read all the new books that arrived!
