Birthday girl!!!

Today is Vals Daughters birthday.

Happy 9th birthday J :) We are thinking of you :) Hope you have had a fun day!

Thursday

I am still so sleepy. Not good! I've also been really horribly anxious all morning which was worrying me a lot - so then I had Lloyd check with his colleague who is a pharmacist, and It turns out that withdrawing from my meds - mainly the Neurontin, can cause anxiety, paranoia and mania. Lol I said to Lloyd I wouldn't mind being manic for a little while but typically I don't get the good symptom lol....

Last night we went into town briefly and filled the truck with gas and went into Tims for coffee. Then we drove around a couple of subdivisions to see what was new....Sherwood Hills is horrible - I really would hate to live somewhere like that. There is only one house I like in there but I wouldn't want it in there - it looks like it would be so much better somewhere like Jasper!

Tonight is date night. Laurie goes to air cadets too so we are dropping him off and then going out somewhere and then picking him up again :) I am looking forward to it as its the first date night in 3 weeks without someone else with us :) and Lloyd is going into work late tomorrow too, so he can have breakfsat with me :) and next week he's booked a morning off to take me out for breakfast :) Nice :)

The truck came today and took away the big bin/ skip we hired. We are one step closer to getting back to normal and having the front yard look tidy again :)

It will be so good to get the concrete base smashed up and lay the new grass and gravel driveway.......it'sd such a mess out there right now...of course we can't do any of that until the new kitchen etc is built or the big trucks will make a mess of it all......

Today is school picture day so the children went off to school in suitable clothing and with their hair done nicely etc - but how they will look by the time the pictures are taken is anyones guess lol!

The weather forecast for the weekend in Jasper is looking crappy and I would really rather postpone until a weekend with dry/ snow weather...I don't mind hiking in snow and cold but I really don't feel up to a miserable weekend in wet weather - I don't have any wet weather gear at all and don't really want to have to buy any. If we were staying in a nice hotel it would be different because we could hang out in the hotel room or go out to a nice restaurant or bar etc but I don't fancy hanging out ina 12 bed dorm because of the crappy weather.....I had hoped for drinking wine by the fire pit, sitting by a lake and laughing and joking.....but none of that is possible in the rain - I won't even be able to take my camera.....I'm really disappointed in the weather.....but if we postponed two weeks then it would be more than likely dry or snow - either of which would be fine.......

I guess if I pull out someone else could drive...it just means they probably wouldn't go another weekend. I'm waiting to hear from Christie but so far it sounds like its only me not kitted out for wet weather. You see (those of you not in AB) it doesn't rain here very often at all - it snows from October - April and in the summer months its only the occasional thunder shower....so you don't really need rain gear.

I'm so tired. I need to go and do some laundry and make some lunch. This morning has been spent reading with Sam, and then he did some drawing and he played with the straws - those ones you build with......oh and he LOVED watching the truck come and pick up the big bin :)

He's back!

Jasper is back - yay! He's ok thankfuly. I wonder where he's been!!!!! Cairo seems glad to have him back :)

Jasper is missing....

Jasper went out last night and come bed time, he didn't come back...Cairo came in and slept in the mudroom but Jasper didn't show up - and I haven't seen him this morning at all :(

Sam and I are about to go for a walk to look around for him and see if we can hear him anywhere.....

Where is he???????

Nantucket Lightship Baskets..

www.michaelkaneslightshipbaskets.com/history.php

I had never heard of these baskets but after watching them being made, I think it will definitely be something I get one day - there are very few on Ebay right now.......and after being on Martha prices are sure to rise....

They are stunning and it really is amazing to see them being made.

Cape Cod and Nantucket are on my list of places I want to visit anyway....and now so is visiting a craft shop to see these being made for real.......

Charlies Fall picture...

Harvest time.....

Sam checking out the hay bales yesterday!

Hump day catch-ups......

I've been so tired since the weekend. Like really, really, falling-asleep tired! I've reduced my meds and I am using my litebox every morning and it hasn't made any difference at all.....

This weekend we are off to Jasper. There are 4 of us going...anyone else want to come? Room for 4 more in the car!!! With 4 of us going its about $70 or so each but the more that go, the less it will cost :) We leave Saturday morning and will come back Sunday evening. It should be a lot of fun :) Girls only - oh and adults only :) No kidlets allowed :)

Oh and if anyone is insured to drive other peoples vehicles, you are welcome to share the driving!

I hate flies...I mean really HATE them.....I bought a new can of fly killer yesterday and have been on a murdering frenzy ever since. I swear you can barely breathe in my home because I have been spraying it so much (Val can vouch for this lol!) Our crappy old windows don't have the mesh thingies on the outside, so if the doors or windows get left pen then the house fills up with flies and its gross.....Lloyd is like my hero before bed and kills them all for me by leaping around.

Tomorrow is school picture day so I have to pick nice outfits for the girls - the boys are beyond the age where I can tell them what to wear so I will just nag them continually this evening.

Yesterday I met Val for breakfast.....Grace was surprised to see us on a Tuesday! As always she spoiled Sam and Vals little guy with suckers and it is always so relaxing and so much fun to go there for breakfast - so few places you can take two toddler to eat and be that relaxed!

After breakfast Val came back to my house for a while - she was having new carpets laid and that isn't often easy with a toddler underfoot! We went for a walk and I took some Fall pictures of the two boys up by the hay bales etc.....I was pleased with the pictures as we caught lots of smiles! It felt though that I had gone through the whole day in some weird sleep state...like I was awake but not awake.....so weird and I have no idea why I am this tired.

Last night Lloyd and I made dinner together - butter chicken. I made the poppadums (sp?) and we had naan and basmati rice too. Everyone loves this.

After dinner I sat and read with Sam - his favourite book of the moment is The Wheels on the Bus. We read a few others too though and Lloyd was sat by us doing some work for BCAL. Then we sat and watched two episodes of Greys Anatomy but I was falling asleep on the sofa through them.

Today was early out at school, so the kids got home around 2pm and Chris has brought two friends back with him - one is a computer dude who is altering Chris's computer downstairs.....I daren't ask how! He was impressed with my Mac though so I like him :)

My house smells of raisin bread toasted as all the kids went nuts and made platefuls when they got home.

I need gas in the car so we are going into town tonight and will grab coffee out. Datenight has been moved each week now because of Air Cadets. We need to get to Costco soon.

Not sure I have other news today.

Sunday stuff...

Another gorgeous day outside - it's 23c!! Lloyd had his hair cut today so I took Abigail to get some clothes for Fall. We all had coffee in Starbucks too. We picked Laurie up from his sleepover and now we plan to spend the rest of the day outside :)

We've been having such wonderful weather lately :) I want it to last!!! The drive into Sherwood Park was stunning! The trees all golden in the sunshine :)

My back aches from all the shovelling and tidying up out by the barn yesterday. Lloyd just made me a cup of tea so I think I will take it outside with me!

Half a decade.....

Five years. Five years ago today we left the UK and moved to Canada! Its hard to believe we have lived here for 5 years already! Although we have lived in 3 different houses here and have crammed a whole lot into the last 5 years!

All I can say is that its a move we have never regretted :)

I weely weely lub Yaspa!

Sam showing Jasper some (not so) tender loving care! He means well, he just needs to learn not to squeeze so hard (and not to hang by the neck)!

woops! I dropped it!

Please note: No animals were hurt or injured in the production of this blog post! But its surprising how many feathers a chicken can lose when its dropped bya two year old!

A Beautiful Day....to buy a gun!?!

25c.....another gorgeous Summery day in September!

Today has been a fun day - kind of busy really and I have a ton of pictures to add later when I can get them onto the computer!

This morning we cleared up more of the barn remnants...we lit a huge fire on the concrete pad where the barn stood...we had four big train track sleepers to frame the fire and then threw in all the garbage and straw and wood etc.....it is such a mess out there still with piles of wood ready to be burned and the big bin and the metal roofing and then this big ugly concrete pad that we will need to smash up.

At lunchtime we cleaned ourselves up and then headed into town to drop Laurie at his friends for a sleepover. then we headed into Edmonton to meet with our builder and sign the contract for our renovations - yes, finally, FINALLY we have a contract in place but start dates are still not known - they MAY break ground by mid November but it's dependent on frost levels etc so it may not even be started until Spring. The entire job is going to take a minimum of 6 months!!! SIX MONTHS!!!!! Wah!!! But Andy did say that they would do the outside shell before Christmas and then leave the inside until after Christmas so I will have my house intact for the holidays and won't have to worry about mess or no kitchen etc until afterwards. Thats good!

Apollo had an open house today - they had the local radio station there all morning and had refreshments etc - they've just added two new sunrooms to their offices so it was interesting to see how it looks now its finished! I can't WAIT to see ours when its done. we're having a pony wall with deep window sills/ ledges so we can have plants etc on the ledges....

Now we've signed, the price is fixed although we can add and remove parts of it and the price can alter that way - and will also alter depending on the kitchen cupboards/ counter tops/ lighting etc etc that we choose.

We will have a wrap-around porch that joins onto a rear deck from the sunroom. I love that we are wrapping the porch! It will look so good! And of course we are making the basement a walkout basement and will have an extra room in the basement and so much light!

The kitchen is going to be wonderful with a 12' long island....ok so now things are being set in motion I am getting very excited although I am not looking forward to all the mess and dust and chaos and workmen!

They will still be here doing the supporting walls and patio etc next Summer so its going to be a busy year!

Anyway, after all that was done, we drove to the gun shop and range. Neither of us have ever been in a gun shop in our lives (Oh Christie you would be so proud lol!) It was really interesting! Basically to get a gun we need to take a one day course and then apply for a licence (that will take 16 weeks) and then we can buy an unrestricted gun. So we will take the one day course in November but we may go to the range on Thursday to actually shoot a gun for the first time!

The man talking to us was MAD! He was saying how his wifes muffins are hard enough to stop a bullet! I then asked him why someone would want to own a restricted gun (hand gun) and he said (I kid you not!!!) well if you don't like immigrants you could walk into any 7-11 (Spar) and shoot one!! So I said 'I'm an immigrant!' and he said 'yes but you're not one of 'those' - you're not Muslim'!!!!!!!!

I was gobsmacked! I'm left thinking 'should he be working in a gunstore'???????? But for the most part he was very friendly and funny....just kind of off his head lol!

Anyway, it was quite an experience going in a gun store!!! Oh and he suggested we call the RCMP here and ask whether we are allowed to fire a gun on our land as some have restrictions - so Lloyd mentions that our neighbour does so we figure we should be able to - and the guy laughs and says do NOT tell the RCMP your neighbour is shooting a firearm on his land! rotflmao!!!!!!!

Now we are home and having a cup of tea. lloyd got a message to say his friend arrived home safely. Susie is home from her sleepover - she slept over at her friend Cassies last night and went to see the Edmonton football team The Eskimoes play against Montreal. The Eskies won! It's American football - not soccer - and Susie loved the cheerleaders!

The weather is just so gorgeous outside today that we plan to spend the rest of the day outside - making smores by the fire and burning more of the wood from the old barn.....

Ok - off to sort the pictures and then I will add those before going outside!

Have a good day everyone!
