Afternoon stroll...

Sam pulling the garbage can back to the house this afternoon on our way home from our walk......he pulled it all the way up the driveway :)

Friday fun....and a recipe!

This morning I took Abigail and Sam out for breakfast - it was so nice...our waitress Grace sat with us and chatted and she is so great with the children - spoils them rotten...she always complains when I tip her but she has no idea how easy she makes going out for breakfast with children :)

It was a lovely start to the day - but Val we missed you :)

Oh and Mom - Grace asked after you and said to say hello!

We got home around 11:30am and we finally made some Gak....gloop, slime...whatever you want to call it! Lovely stuff! Anyway I will post the pics of that on our homeschooling blog (homeschooling first grade - link to the right) and while the children were happily playing with that (for AGES) I made some chocolate snowballs.....the dough is chilling in the fridge ready to be rolled into balls and rolled in icing sugar or coconut! Yum! It already tastes great!

Chocolate snowballs are a really easy no-bake recipe that kids LOVE to make and everyone loves to eat :) I like to tell myself that the goodness in the oats counteracts all the badness in the sugar, syrup and butter ;)

1 1/3 cups of butter
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 cups of oats
1 1/2 cups dessicated coconut
6 tbsp syrup
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp vanilla
2 tbsp cocoa powder (I actually add more than this but its up to you)

icing sugar or more coconut to roll the balls in afterwards.

Mix all ingredients together until it forms a slightly sticky dough. Chill for one hour. Roll into bitesized balls (some of ours are the size of walnuts/ timbits though). roll in the icing sugar or coconut. Chill and eat :)

Chris is sleeping at school tonight - at 8am this morning he started a 24 hour fast to raise funds for the school they support in Africa. I sent him with sleeping bag and pancake mix as they are breaking their fast tomorrow morning with a big pancake breakfsat.

Laurence is going to a birthday party sleepover tonight. Susie is bringing a friend back from school and I am taking all three girls to the movie night at the community hall....they are showing Shrek the Third. The Susies friend is sleeping over here.

Last night I had to attend another meeting about the Christmas party - it only lasted just over an hour thankfully.....it was quite a good meeting - only 9 days now until the party.

I will figure out the pictures a little while later and add them here.

In the pic above, Abigail 'stole' a snowball as I was taking a picture...but I thought the pic was cute so I kept it ;)

Happy Thanksgiving to Heather and Debbie!!

I think Heather and Debbie are my only US readers??????

Happy Thanksgiving today - I hope you have been having a wonderful day and continue to enjoy this extra long weekend :)

Thinking of you

Jane
x

PS This is the closest I have to a picture of a Thanksgiving turkey.....a friend of mine has a DH who goes hunting and likes to display his catches on their wall...this turkey is above the heating vent in their family room and when the heating is on, the wings flap :) tasteful huh???? lol! All I can say is she must really love him ;)

Not even December...

Chris has changed the ring of our telephones in the house from a normal phone ring to 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas'...so every time someone calls I hear this tinny Christmas music coming from somewhere (normally under a cushion or chair or in a toy box etc lol)

It's driving me nuts already and its only been a couple of days....

But then at other times - when it clicks that its actually the phone ringing, it makes me laugh.....

OMG.....

You know.....sometimes I wonder how people get the ideas and thoughts they have...I know we are all free to have our own thoughts and minds but sometimes I wonder how people can be so closed minded and so judgmental of others.....todays topic in Current Events....it just saddens me....I am not going to get involved in that conversation on there but I am STUNNED by some of the thoughts people have on the subject.....

My thoughts? My heart goes out to that poor man who was obviously very distressed and scared....who didn't speak a word of English...who thought he was coming to a wonderful new life in Canada...who just wanted to see his Mom......who had arranged to meet her by the suitcase carousels....

10 hours TEN HOURS he was left there - his Mom the other side of glass doors kept asking for help and information and no one helped her.....the man was left alone ignored for soooo long and no one thought to get a translator on the phone, to get help or try to help with his distress.....

Its disgusting and very VERY sad and too late to make amends.....

I know everyone is free to see this story in their own way but my own opinion is that this family was let down by Canada in a VERY big way :( Canada should be ashamed. I know I am!

The new tank...

Lloyd will fit the filter thingies tonight but at least they have more room to swim and grow and more oxygen to breath....our water is very VERY salty...we have to have a distiller to clean some of the water to make it drinkable and although its drinkable, it seems to have very little oxygen left in it and poor Goldie can't breathe!!! Hopefully things will improve now and Goldie will live for a long time!!! We got him in February so we've had him for 9 months!

My miracle fish Goldie :)

Back from the brink of death again :)

Please welcome Blob!!!!

Here is our new little fishy Blob (aka Goldie2). he seems to have settled in well :)

Wednesdays sunset...

Thursday

I have a meeting tonight to go to.....boooooring!!!! But for today we are staying home. I washed all the floors, cleaned the mudroom, did some laundry, tidied upstairs.....filled up the new fish tank and ut the fish in........made lunch....Sam and Abby made fruitloop necklaces.......they played on the computer together while I did the floors...

So yes, not much happening here! I think we are going to wrap up and head down to the mailbox for a walk and some fresh air......maybe we will walk over to the horses...

Lloyd went to work in his suit today...everyone asked if he had an interview and were all worried he was going to leave ;) Actually he was just doing some MAJOR networking over lunch...he looks good in his suit :) he didn't get a jacket last night....couldn't find one at South Ed Common so he's going to try Holt Renfrew downtown instead.....

We didn't do much shopping after all last night - we went to Joeys Global for dinner and then went to the pet store to get a bigger fish tank with oxygen filter thingy for Goldie - and ended up buying a new fish - it's the weirdest looking goldfish ever - it looks like a marble with fins!! just round and tiny and kind of wiggles as it swims :) so we have named it 'Blob' although Sam seems to think it is his and has called it 'Goldie'....lol...so original! :)

We got home around 9pm....oh we did stop off at Scholars Choice and Lloyd bought another big pack of playfoam - he dished it out at work this morning and told everyone they had to mold it into an animal and the person who creates the best animal gets more work as their prize because obviously they have too much time on their hands :) nonetheless, they all rushed over to get their playfoam :) too funny!

I got through my big coffee very fast this morning - I think I need some more now.

Lloyd is finishing work early today as we have an electrician coming over to give us a price on some work.

Then lasagna and garlic bread and salad for dinner before I have to go to this meeting - I'm tempted to say I have to be home by 8pm - so I can leave early......I'm tired.

I have sunset pictures from last night to post.....

I think we are going to make Gak this afternoon...

Goldie lives for another day...

Goldie is swimming about - the right way up...so it seems our TLC has helped and she is doing good! He...she...not sure....and Susie wants to know if goldfish pee......you can SEE they poop but do they pee?????? The water never goes yellow but then I guess they are drinking water all day so it would be clear anyway....but yuck they must swim around in their pee.....

Still, she/ he is alive and getting better :) woohoo!

Please vote today!!!

Sharon just sent me this and I've voted - please do the same - it only takes a minute!

This was posted on a parenting board that I am a member of, it is such a sad story (if you read her story)
Please go to the link and vote for her!

Charlie on the run....

Amber and Rosie got Charlie into trouble today...they had headed up to our neighbours home to see Gizmo and Yogi...and Charlie followed them! I saw her walking towards the road - she NEVER wanders that far so I knew she was following the dogs....I called her back and she comes running - I tell you, seeing a fat pog like Charlie run fast is soooo funny! She can motor despite her size lol!

The dogs got back fast though...and Charlie just ran through the flower bed instead of walking around it lol! When she got back she wasn't interested in her daily apple - nice to see her out though as yesterday she stayed in her bed all day....

Report card day...

It's only 3:30pm and I'm exhausted and I still have to go out tonight....its been a good day but BUSY....lots of errands to run!

We got up and went into town to Parentlink. It was a good morning - time flies there!!! Samantha gave me a gift when I got there - a pig that 'oinks' a Christmas song!!! Lol she knew I was looking for a friend for Charlie! Too funny! She also gave me such a pretty thank you card for Friday night - with a wonderful message inside :)

Today the story at circle time was The Hungry Caterpillar and Samantha had this apron that she could stick all the characters to! It was really cool! Snack was apples with cinnamon sprinkles, cheese and goldfish :) My two were very happy :) The craft was 'Gak' which is really funny because we had planned to make some at home this afternoon anyway! But we will make it tomorrow now! Sam spent most of his time building with the huge wooden blocks. Samantha invited me to quiz night tomorrow night which I would have gone to except I have a meeting at the hall to go to :(

After parentlink, we drove to Walmart to deliver a letter...then to the mall to return some dvd's for Samantha and to pick up some chocolates from Laura Secord for the Christmas party. Ran into Chapters for some magazines and then back to the car....drove to Costco to collect a $50 gift card they gave us for the party.....LOVE Costco!!!! So many stores have stupid policies when it comes to donations but Costco are great!

Then we headed home finally - checked mail to find my Creating Keepsakes magazine...yay!

The kids got home just after us and we have been doing a few chores.....Chris has been phoning round various businesses for me...they brought their report cards home with them - Susannahs is FABULOUS - she got excellent in everything and her teacher said she felt blessed to have her in her classroom.....that Susannah is a leader in her class (this shocks me and shows that her year at home really worked wonders for her confidence!) Laurences report card didn't surprise me (sigh) he got honours in a couple of subjects and then got 63% in a couple of others....his teacher said he is capable of more and she is soooo right about that! Chris too - he got honours in a couple of subjects and 70's in other subjects and he is also capable of much much more....but I also know that junior high is a time for social lives and fitting in and so I am hoping that they get this out of their system and then buckle down and study in high school.....Basically though, none of them are struggling and they all have positive things about their report cards.....all have their teachers saying how much they enjoy having them in their class and thats very important too!

I slipped off a seat at parentlink today and now have a big lump on my arm....what a dork lol - luckily the only peole to see were Sam and Abby and they're more than used to seeing me being a dork ;)

Tonight is date night...we're doing some Christmas shopping and Lloyd said something about him wanting a new jacket.....so maybe we will look for one for him.

Chris is over the moon because we measured him on the wall and he is almost an inch taller than me!!!!

At Costco I bought a big bag of sugar - their bags are HUGE.....with baking and everything else it doesn't last long! This bag for sure won't last long because it leaked all in the car and then leaked all through the house while I carried it in.....sigh.....

I'm tired and as much as I am looking forward to an evening out with Lloyd, I would be just as happy to curl up with a good movie and a box of After Eights! I'm not at home now until Saturday night as tomorrow I have a meeting all evening and Friday its movie night at the hall....Laurie is going to a sleepover birthday party on Friday and Chris is sleeping over at school as Friday night they are doing a 24 hour fast for charity - raising money for the school in Africa that their school supports....

I haven't been for a run today....I could go now and get it done before I go out, but I am drained, so I think I will just not do it today....

Tomorrow we are making sugar cookies and Gak! Probably staying home...Lloyd will be home early as Sunshine's (from LP) DH is coming over in the afternoon to give us a quote for electrical work....and Sunshine might be coming over to say hi and meet Charlie!

Goldie in ICU....

WE came home today to find our goldfish fighting for his life....he's floating on his side again struggling to breathe...like he was a few weeks ago when we thought he was going to die...but he IS breathing....

We changed the water so he had lots of oxygen and he is breathing more easily but it doesn't look good :(

Poor little thing!!!!
