Roller Boogie night!

My dvd of Roller Boogie arrived today so we sat and watched it tonight! Lloyd was VERY well behaved and only made a few sarcastic comments (and I do have to agree that some of the fashions were pretty bad lol - but I had never noticed that Bobby wears a tshirt with 'BJ' emblazoned on the front lol...of course Lloyd thought THAT was hilarious!!!

Susie sat and watched it as I had explained that it was my version of High School Musical lol!

Laurie sat and watched it and joined in on the sarcastic comments with Lloyd...

Christopher came in twice and rolled his eyes before walking out! Abigail and Sam had more sense and sat at the computer munching apples the whole time....

Me? I very happily watched the whole thing and could remember it line for line....even the Maids name and the tone things were said in.......

It was a very corny, badly acted, movie with a very bad wardrobe...but OMG it was so much fun to watch it again after all these years....I probably haven't seen it since I was about 12 or 13...so 23 years maybe? BRILLIANT!!!!!

I have this urge to take the kids to the roller rink now!

Tonights sunset...

I thought tonights sunset was lovely and wintery looking! Very calm.....

Less than 4 days......

It took less than four days for the chickadees to get through all the food in BOTH feeders - and they are BIG feeders! Needless to say, todays job was to refill the feeders - you should ahve seen the birds going crazy looking for the feeders while we were filling them :)

The Chickadees are about 2 foot away from me when I wash the dishes.....I have the window open all day so they can hear me clanking about in the sink and running the taps hard...they don't seem to mind at all! In fact I've even caught them perching on the windowsill looking at me :)

They call to each other when they are done as if to say to their friend 'I'm done - its your turn'....

Todays page.....

I scrapbooked Halloween today.....

No breakfast

I had to cancel breakfast with Val today - which means we haven't had breakfast for weeks and weeks and weeks! Hopefully next week!

Sam started coming down with a cold or something last night...he hasn't been himself for days...but he didn't seem ill...just more tired than normal - but last night he started sneezing green snot constantly...he snored all night long LOUDLY!!! And then this morning the green snot continues....and I have to be fast to wipe his nose or he uses his hands or shirt or sleeve.....so nice!!!!!

Lloyd will be home just after lunch as we have our builder coming over as well as the furnace company.....so people here all afternoon.

This afternoon Abigail and I are making toffee apples. We are also going to work on the pomegranates some more...you all know its pomegranate month right?????? and this is part of our healthy eating topic for grade 1...as well as the sharpness/ bitterness/ sweetness of the Arils can be a part of our 'Five Senses' topic.

Lloyd printed off our lapbook kits today - we bought them last night from hands of a child....anyway..all this will be on our homeschooling blog - you can click on the link on the right to read all about it!

I am hoping to go out for coffee with lloyd tonight but we shall see how the day progresses...I may change my mind and want to stay home and be lazy instead!

Learning to give.......

www.learningtogive.org/lessons/edgate/search/search_by_subject.asp

A useful search engine of lesson plans and ideas for each grade level and each subject....

hands of a child...

We've done lapbooking a few times in the past, but I thought we would do some again this week. With this in mind, I decided to take the easy option (lol) and have ordered two lapbooking E-kits from www.handsofachild.com

We've ordered The Five Senses, and Healthy Eating. Yes I could have created something similar myself, but I thought I would try these kits I have heard so much about, and see how A likes them....

The best thing is that I don't have to wait on delivery.....they are e-packs which means within a couple of hours I can download them all and print them off here at home :)

I'll let you know what I think of them! Oh and I would say that even if you are not homeschooling, these would make excellent time-fillers on rainy days or wintery days when you want to stay indoors - they even do fun topics such as pirates or chocolate! If you aren't keen on lapbooking, you could use the packs in a notebook instead!

The Five Senses...and Santa letters

This weeks theme at Parentlink is 'The Five Senses' - all the songs at circle time were about the five senses, there were books about the topic to read, so we curled up and read one of those....and A was interested in the brain stem and what its for....and the optic nerve......then at snack time there were sour foods, bitter foods, salty foods and sweet foods to taste and they had a big poster on the wall explaining what part of your tongue tastes what type of food....

We have a few follow-up activities to do about that this week at home too...in fact I think we may continue it into next week and make a lap book about the five senses.

Today was 'early out' at school, so when Su got home they sat at the table and started to write their letters to Santa....

What else have we done today? Oh we read a FAB book called Stanleys Party by Linda Bailey....so funny, abouta dog who gets left alone each night, so he invites all his friends round for a party and that particular night his owners come home early!

We also played a couple of rounds of Word Bingo again...A won both games AGAIN...which means I have not won any yet!

Thinking of a friend.....

A friend of mine had some very difficult news today and her and her family will be facing new unplanned challenges over the next few years.....I just want her to know that, both she, and her family are in my thoughts.

Tuesday and Wednesday catch up....

Last night was date night.....and aside from dinner we went to 'look' at new beds....we fell in love with the beds at the hotel in Whistler and neither of us have slept as well since coming home...so we went Sleep Country and tried some out :) Fell in love with one and snapped it up as it was on sale :) It has the most amazing pillow top on it and was just so comfortable! It's coming on Friday yay! We still don't know what to do with our bed we have now....so we are going to put it in the basement until we decide....

This morning we got up early and headed into town to see Samantha at parent link. Naomi was there! Naomi is British and I met her and her Mom at Parents Place a couple of years ago....so it was nice to see her and her little boy Levi (same age as Sam) and catch up with her news - she is finally taking her dirving test next month - so good luck Naomi!!!

Samantha introduced me to her friend Heather too....Heather is in Samanthas quiz night team at Oscars on Thursdays - Samantha has asked me to go along a few times but the timing has never been good. Samantha and I finally made a date for dinner though - I am taking her out for dinner next Friday - to Joeys Global :)

I was also chatting to Sandi...Sandi works with Erin at Regis and she has been cutting Lloyds hair since we came to Canada - she has a little boy a little younger than Sam who is just the cutest - he looks just like the little boy from Jerry Maguire!!!

The theme at Parentlink this week is 'The Five Senses' so we read a book about that and sang songs and the snack was aimed at testing your taste buds and the different parts of your tongue!

We left Parentlink around mid day and ran into Save-On for some more pomegranates - they are on sale right now as they are in season and the kids LOVE the juice AND the seeds - Susie took a bag of seeds to school in her lunch today :) They are so good for you!

Now we are home and I just ate lunch at the computer....Lloyd phoned to say his day is going good - Chris went to work with him for the day today as its 'Take Your Kid to Work Day'...IBM took them out to Sorrentino's for lunch!!! Chris says he wants to be a QA Manager now if thats the treatment they get every day! Lloyd gets taken out for lunch most days - tomorrow he is going to Lux with some other company!

The kids will be home soon and we are gong to curl up and watch Tuck Everlasting.....

Tonight I have to work on some letters for the Christmas party I am helping to organize.....

Tomorrow Lloyd finishes at lunchtime and is home all afternoon as we have some workmen coming over to check things out re the renovations - the furnace company is coming to service the furnace and they are also meeting with our builder to talk about how the air conditioning unit has to be moved etc when building work starts....

Danica!

For the firework pictures, blowing the glue doesn't work very well unless you thin the glue down with a little water.....but we didn't do that - we just used the straws and dragged them outwards from the glue to create the firework shapes...you could use the end of a pencil or a thin popsicle stick too....

Movie reviews...

This last weekend we watched three movies.

Friday nights movie: The Family Stone

This movie was so good - just an easy-to-watch kind of movie about a family coming together for Christmas and dealing with their childrens new relationships...they also have to deal with the fact that the Wife/ Mother is dying of breast cancer....

Sounds depressing but is really a kind of sweet movie about a typical family with grown children at Christmas time.....It did strike a chord with em though as the couple have 5 children. Three boys and two girls. The oldest girl is named Susannah. The oldest Son is JUST like Christopher and they also have a Son much like Laurence and a Daughter much like Abigail - so I guess that means Sam is the gay Son!

Anyway, Christmas is a big thing to the Mom...and she can't imagine not being there for future Christmases....lets just say that by the end I was crying a lot - because Christmas is MY thing.....it's a HUGE thing to me - and the traditions we have to go with it....and I can't imagine not being here to share it with my family.

Saturdays movie - Transformers.

Special effects were good but it just isn't my kind of movie! Lloyd saw it at the movie theatre a few months ago and he and Laurie love it....the rest of us - not so much lol. Typical action movie with trucks that turn into movies....and I'm told the yellow car is cool!

Sundays movie - Eight Below

Such a great movie, such a SAD movie....Lloyd told us all at the start that it's a Disney movie so the dogs will survive and be fine.....Disney movies always have happy endings......HA!!!! Lets just say I was crying through a lot of the movie! We all enjoyed this movie! Its the story of people working in the US base in Antarctica...scientists and cartologists etc and they have to leave the base quickly due to a severe storm (worst in 25 years)...they end up having to leave their 8 sled dogs behind and then find they can't get back to get them.....its a story of the dogs survival and how the dog owners struggle to get back and save them....EXCELLENT.

Off to Kandahar...

My Brother In Law (Clare's DH and Daniel and Oliver (and Isaac''s) Dad, leaves for Afghanistan tomorrow...he's in the Fleet air arm of the Royal Navy and because of staff shortages in the British Army, they have all been trained for places like Afghanistan....

Despite my personal thoughts on the Armed Forces and whether they should actually BE in Afghanistan in the first place, I hope Jack stays safe and well during his time there. Please keep him and my Sisters family in yur thoughts over the coming months.

Luck...

Do you ever wonder why some people have such bad luck all of the time....I don't mean occasional bad luck but REALLY bad luck.....

Is it really bad LUCK....or is it negative thought (going back to The Secret here....) or bad organization? Bad choices? What??????

It just seems that some people are constantly talking about their bad luck.....and I just wonder why that happens.....

A page from today......

Abigail has been busy doing sand art bottles and painting sun catchers, so I decided to get crafty too and did this two page layout of the girls....
