Live long and prosper.....

We were lucky enough to drive through the town of Vulcan, Alberta, on our way to Lethbridge.  We couldn't drive through without stopping off to see the Star Trek themed tourist information centre and the giant SS Enterprise:

We took some pictures for my Ex Nigel as he is a big Star Trek fan:

Sights and memories from our road trip:

Henderson Lake in Lethbridge was lovely:

Friends recommended this candy store which is in Nanton, AB.  It was well worth the detour as it was a fabulous store and even had an antiques/ flea market section - I found two swans for my collection :)

We watched this gorgeous old grain elevator being torn down:

We stopped off at Bass Pro TWICE!!!

Camping fun....good memories :)

Some snapshots of various places we stayed during our trip and memories from the camp sites:

This was the campground we stayed at in Lethbridge.  Picture was taken just after the thunderstorm:

Drumheller:

Lethbridge:

Drumheller:

The site in Drumheller has bunnies EVERYWHERE..
.they even sell food so you can feed them :)

Drumheller, Susie having a coffee after her early morning shower:

Susie and Sam being funny in the bathrooms in Lethbridge:

Lethbridge - the funny thing is, the day after I took this picture, we found out that the log has a snakes nest in it!!  The snakes would pop their heads out now and then - you could easily see at least two!  Then one night they shed their skin and Sam found it and kept it.  When we spoke to friends in Drumheller they knew exactly where the nest in Lethbridge was :)

Toast is so yummy cooked outside:

Sam making popcorn on the camping stove:

Campground friends:

Snake that Sam and friends caught in my coffee cup at Drumheller.  It eventually slithered out and was cool to watch it slither away :)

Making toast on the stove :)

Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump

This place was AMAZING!!  We have the Alberta History Pass, which means we got in for free - always a bonus - definitely worth buying if you are considering any road trips in the next year!  The pass has already saved me a TON of money!  You get in free at the Royal Tyrell Museum, Head Smashed in, Royal Alberta Museum, Ukrainian Cultural Village - and many more places!!  For a year! It was just $75. and we have already saved the cost of it and much more!!!

So yes, this museum is fabulous.  When you arrive, you take the elevator up to level 7 and go out on to the trail that leads to the actual Buffalo Jump.  The museum is built in to the hills which is amazing as you can hardly tell it is there - such a wonderful way to do it!  It doesn't destroy the environment appearance at all!

After seeing the jump, you go back inside and slowly work your way down to ground level - each level has interesting displays, exhibits and movies about Aboriginal/ Native customs and lifestyles, the climate in the area, buffalo and other creatures....

It was really amazing.

Then afterwards we went outside and walked one of the trail loops - it was soooooo hot though!  Definitely worth doing though!

REALLY windy out there - again one of the windiest places in North America!!

Cameron Lake and a hike to Summit Lake

Sunbathing on the dock:

Paddling my toes in the cool mountain water:

Hanging off the deck:

Ice creams with a majestic view:

Having a rest on the four hour hike:

These rocks are everywhere on the trail - the patterns/ ripples on them show that at one time they were in a shallow sea.  This was when much of Alberta was covered in ocean!!  It's so strange to imagine the Rockies not being here and that rock near the top of the mountain was at one time UNDER the sea!!!

Fun with fallen trees, huge roots and magnificent rocks:

Having a drink straight from the waterfall during our hike:

This was the small lake that we hiked up to.  Summit Lake.  No one else was there and it was amazing to sit in the peace and quiet of a lake that few people have been to.  It made Susannah and I want even more to hike to Crypt lake - something amazing about being in places many will never see!!
