Sam showing Jasper some (not so) tender loving care! He means well, he just needs to learn not to squeeze so hard (and not to hang by the neck)!

woops! I dropped it!

Please note: No animals were hurt or injured in the production of this blog post! But its surprising how many feathers a chicken can lose when its dropped bya two year old!

A Beautiful Day....to buy a gun!?!

25c.....another gorgeous Summery day in September!

Today has been a fun day - kind of busy really and I have a ton of pictures to add later when I can get them onto the computer!

This morning we cleared up more of the barn remnants...we lit a huge fire on the concrete pad where the barn stood...we had four big train track sleepers to frame the fire and then threw in all the garbage and straw and wood etc.....it is such a mess out there still with piles of wood ready to be burned and the big bin and the metal roofing and then this big ugly concrete pad that we will need to smash up.

At lunchtime we cleaned ourselves up and then headed into town to drop Laurie at his friends for a sleepover. then we headed into Edmonton to meet with our builder and sign the contract for our renovations - yes, finally, FINALLY we have a contract in place but start dates are still not known - they MAY break ground by mid November but it's dependent on frost levels etc so it may not even be started until Spring. The entire job is going to take a minimum of 6 months!!! SIX MONTHS!!!!! Wah!!! But Andy did say that they would do the outside shell before Christmas and then leave the inside until after Christmas so I will have my house intact for the holidays and won't have to worry about mess or no kitchen etc until afterwards. Thats good!

Apollo had an open house today - they had the local radio station there all morning and had refreshments etc - they've just added two new sunrooms to their offices so it was interesting to see how it looks now its finished! I can't WAIT to see ours when its done. we're having a pony wall with deep window sills/ ledges so we can have plants etc on the ledges....

Now we've signed, the price is fixed although we can add and remove parts of it and the price can alter that way - and will also alter depending on the kitchen cupboards/ counter tops/ lighting etc etc that we choose.

We will have a wrap-around porch that joins onto a rear deck from the sunroom. I love that we are wrapping the porch! It will look so good! And of course we are making the basement a walkout basement and will have an extra room in the basement and so much light!

The kitchen is going to be wonderful with a 12' long island....ok so now things are being set in motion I am getting very excited although I am not looking forward to all the mess and dust and chaos and workmen!

They will still be here doing the supporting walls and patio etc next Summer so its going to be a busy year!

Anyway, after all that was done, we drove to the gun shop and range. Neither of us have ever been in a gun shop in our lives (Oh Christie you would be so proud lol!) It was really interesting! Basically to get a gun we need to take a one day course and then apply for a licence (that will take 16 weeks) and then we can buy an unrestricted gun. So we will take the one day course in November but we may go to the range on Thursday to actually shoot a gun for the first time!

The man talking to us was MAD! He was saying how his wifes muffins are hard enough to stop a bullet! I then asked him why someone would want to own a restricted gun (hand gun) and he said (I kid you not!!!) well if you don't like immigrants you could walk into any 7-11 (Spar) and shoot one!! So I said 'I'm an immigrant!' and he said 'yes but you're not one of 'those' - you're not Muslim'!!!!!!!!

I was gobsmacked! I'm left thinking 'should he be working in a gunstore'???????? But for the most part he was very friendly and funny....just kind of off his head lol!

Anyway, it was quite an experience going in a gun store!!! Oh and he suggested we call the RCMP here and ask whether we are allowed to fire a gun on our land as some have restrictions - so Lloyd mentions that our neighbour does so we figure we should be able to - and the guy laughs and says do NOT tell the RCMP your neighbour is shooting a firearm on his land! rotflmao!!!!!!!

Now we are home and having a cup of tea. lloyd got a message to say his friend arrived home safely. Susie is home from her sleepover - she slept over at her friend Cassies last night and went to see the Edmonton football team The Eskimoes play against Montreal. The Eskies won! It's American football - not soccer - and Susie loved the cheerleaders!

The weather is just so gorgeous outside today that we plan to spend the rest of the day outside - making smores by the fire and burning more of the wood from the old barn.....

Ok - off to sort the pictures and then I will add those before going outside!

Have a good day everyone!
