Swimming and stuff...

Yesterday was another 'free choice Tuesday'. Sam had PreK and so Abigail was free to choose what to do for the day! She chose to go swimming as our local pool had reopened the day before after having been closed for a month! We were in the pool by 9:30 and swam until 11 and then sat in the hot tub for 15 minutes. The pool was lovely and empty which was a VERY good thing as a school class had just arrived as we did and when I asked if they were swimming I was told YES!!! YIKES!!!! Luckily they weren't swimming until after lunch :) Phew!!!

In the pool we had great fun - chasing each other across the pool and around the whirl pool - and trying to walk the wrong way round the whirl pool - which we managed to do :) not easy if you don't hold on to the sides :) We also played volleyball and catch for quite a while with one of the balls there.

After the pool we had an early lunch and then Abigail went in the playground for a while and I sat with my London Fog :)

Then we headed to the grocery store and did a BIG shop - Abigail was in charge of the grocery list and also chose quite a few things for some recipes she wants to make!!! This week we got a free dvd player!!! Then over to Dollarama where we got supplies for a geocache, some things to include with our cards for Aaron and some other bits and pieces including a recorder for Abigail and some Fall decor....

Back to pick Sam up - Abigail played at the playground for a while. Then home to pick up Susannah and unload the groceries. Then off to the school to watch Laurences volleyball game and meet Lloyd and Chris! A great volleyball game and the Mustangs won :) Go Mustangs :)

So, swimming was Abigails choice for this week! She was also happy with the trip to Dollarama and hanging out at two playgrounds today!!! Oh and she had fun at the grocery store because she got to choose a lot of things AND push the cart ;)

I need a baby!!!!!!!

For those of you who live in my area, do you know a family who has recently had a baby? I believe the baby needs to be between 2 and 4 months old by mid October.

One Preschool in our area has been chosen to run the wonderful 'Seeds of Empathy' program.

www.seedsofempathy.org/

This is the preschool version of the very successful elementary school program Roots of Empathy' program. Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based classroom program that has shown dramatic effect in reducing levels of aggression among school children by raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. Seeds of Empathy grew out of Roots of Empathy and brings the messages of that program to three-to-five-year-olds.

I believe the parent/ baby would have to visit the preschool once a month for about half an hour. There would be no direct contact between the children and the baby. The baby is given some books, a special 'teacher' vest (for teaching the children about empathy)!! and there is a celebration at the end of the year!!!

Please contact me if you know someone who may be able to help or who would like further details - thank you!!! We need a few families quickly! The time is almost here. We promise it would be a lot of fun and the preschool is a wonderfully warm and welcoming place :)

New Fall decor........

I added a little something to my Fall decor yesterday - a black cauldron that I filled with some Fall leaves - total cost $3 from Dollarama ;) I got an extra cauldron to fill with candy too :) I can't find candy corn anywhere though......hhhmmmmmm!!!

Sammy at the school.....

...and I didn't get struck by lightning ;)

Go Mustangs!!!

The Mustangs won their first game of the year yesterday :) Laurence is the team Captain :) It was a very exciting game - though I have to say that it is a dangerous spectator sport!!! The ball kept flying in to the crowd!! I was there at the start, and Lloyd arrived halfway through with Chris, as they got there after work/ school. It was nice to have the whole family there to watch!! :)

Sorry the pics aren't great - I just snapped them with my iphone!!!

The finished pumpkins!!!

.....and a painting Abigail did with leftover paint!! She was happy to explain why she painted the sky ALL the way down to the grass (her art teacher has taught them all that the sky is NOT just a line of blue at the top of the paper but that actually if you look, it goes all the way to the horizon, where it meets the ground (or whatever it touches first) - I think this is an important skill to learn as an artist and she was very proud to have learned it :)

Painting pumpkins!!!

livelifecreateart.blogspot.com/

Sam saw me looking at this blog yesterday and thought it looked soooo much fun!!! So while we were at Saver on Foods, we picked up some mini pumpkins just to paint!!! This afternoon is windy and nasty outside and very Fall-like!! The perfect weather to do a Fall craft - like painting pumpkins :)

A work in progress....

I've been working on the 'base' of my mini album for the online class I took last week - 'Fall in Love' .......now to do the fun part and fill it with all the interesting 'stuff'....answer all the juicy prompts, journal the memories, get creative and collage!!!

Touches of Fall......

a few snapshots of Fall touches around our home.....

Edited to add that most of the things in these pictures come from Homesense lol - my Sister Karen will be just THRILLED to hear that - she used to work for them ;) I LOVE Homesense :)

Susie whips up an afternoon snack....

iphone snapshots....

One thing I am loving about geocaching is that it leads you in to some places that you would not see otherwise!! I never knew this park existed and it was lovely! I must have driven by it a hundred times!!! And who knew there was treasure buried there!!!?? ;)

Another geocache find!!!!

I didn't feel very well this weekend so we cancelled our plans and instead we just went out to find a geacache fairly close to the grocery store we had to head to. This was a GREAT find - and the kids were THRILLED!!! We had taken things to trade with and so they were really pleased that they got to pick something to keep and they exchanged several things from their stash and took one thing each. Sam took a yellow ball and Susannah took some pencils. In exchange we left three things and signed the log book. It was a really good cache and the kind that we plan to make because I think this is the kind of cache that is best - adults are happy just to sign a book but kids LOVE treasure and it makes it soooooo much more fun if there is something to find - this is the third real 'treasure' find we have had now and the kids really get excited but I have to say this was the BEST one!!! :)

3 tired little ones.....

New sign for the bathroom????

We found this piece of garbage on the floor and couldn't resist snapping a picture!!! I joked that we should frame it and hang it in the bathroom ;)

Smile cookie monster!!!

Coraline...

Last night we all watched Coraline as a family movie and Abigail, Sam and I got to compare the movie to the book!! Wow - it is VERY different from the book! It was a great movie and we all enjoyed it (although Sam was scared at the end). It was just very interesting to see how different the story was from the book. I also thought how they interpreted the characters was very interesting - especially Miss Forcible and Miss Spink - wow their show was hilarious in the movie.....and kind of odd for a childrens animation.....although I guess the kind of parents who let their children watch movies like Coraline wouldn't mind things like that anyway - I just thought it was hilarious!!! ;)

It has been an interesting learning experience anyway - to read a book and then see a movie. Onwards and upwards - we move on to 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'. We have read the book a few times but this time we are reading it with 'meaning' as part of our unit study on comparing books and movies. So we will be heading off to the movie theatre this week some time!!!

Mail day!!

Abigail and Susannah cycled to one of our neighbours today to get some eggs, and then stopped off at the mailbox on the way home to collect the mail from yesterday. In amongst the mail was a letter addressed to Sam and Abigail!!! They were THRILLED!!!

Thank you sooooo much JoAnne! They were thrilled with the coupons and I see a few trips to McDonalds for breakfast in our very near future :)
