First day of Fall...

Beautiful colours in nature on the first day of Fall 2011...

Friday night ramblings..

I think I'm coming down with something....I started feeling achey and tired late this afternoon and so INCREDIBLY tired...I had a nap but even that didn't help.  We took Laurence to his party and at 8:30 and since then I've been curled up watching a movie and feeling yucky...

Hope I feel better tomorrow - busy day.

Today was nice.  Abigail and Sam spent much of the day working on their Minecraft project - which I don't mind because they work on it together and they work so well together which is good for them - team work - AND they are getting sooooo much from it!  Sam especially!  I spent a while reading up about Minecraft this week because I wanted to know all about this 'game' that they spend so much time with...and I think it's actually really good for them.  We've had a busy week and done a lot, so a morning spent working together and on the computer was quite good for them.

Next week will be another busy week as we seem to have a lot of appointments and classes again.  I specifically planned quiet weeks and the ONLY class we have EVERY week is French club, but somehow our weeks fill up so quickly - my evenings next week are filling up fast as well - and next weekend is full already too!  In fact October is full now too!!  I am not complaining because I feel so blessed and grateful to have this life.  I really do have such a full and varied life right now.

This afternoon we met our friends at the dog park for a walk.  Sandy has a new dog - they adopted 'Sam' at the beginning of the Summer, and today was the first time they had taken him to the dog park.  Sandy wasn't sure how Sam would react to being off leash and around so many other dogs and people, but he did great!!  It was funny having two Sam's and even though my Sam didn't seem to notice Sandy yelling at her dog, I kept thinking she was yelling at Sam...it was funny :)

Sandy's Son B is in school this year and so we haven't seen him for a while - it was nice to see him again - and I was sooo surprised at how much E had grown over the Summer too!  Kids really do seem to shoot up over the Summer months!

Susannah had the day off of school today, but made her own plans for the day.  She went out at lunch time with Cassie - they went shopping and then to a movie and she is sleeping over there tonight.  I am so pleased that she stays in touch with Cassie even though they are at different schools now.

Friday fill-ins....

And...here we go!

1. When I walk around my neighborhood I see Beautiful Fall colour, quiet roads, llamas and cows, fields and trees, peace.

2. At the moment pulled pork or yummy warming soups are my favorite thing to cook.

3. Life is a rollercoaster, my days are so full and crazy, but I feel blessed and very grateful for my full and happy life.

4. My friends and children make me feel all warm and fuzzy with  their loving messages every day xxx

5. Golden beets are my favorite Autumn vegetable. And on the subject of food - had such a funny conversation with B last night about food...for a cook he's such a fussy bugger!!

6. Pumpkin Spice Latte is better when it is from Starbucks, because they know how to make it right - with real whipped cream and pumpkin spices sprinkled on top YUM. I have tried THREE now from other coffee shops and none have come CLOSE to comparing to Starbucks!!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to meeting Sandy at the dog park for a walk, then taking Abby and Sam to Ikea - Abigail is DESPERATE to go there for some crazy reason lol - oh to get a bulb for her lamp and Sam need a bedside lamp... tomorrow my plans include Not sure what we will do during the day - although Ki invited us to Jasper with her.....but I have to pick Laurence up in Spruce Grove at some point from his gf's house....maybe we will go to the science centre and use our annual passes...or maybe swimming....or...who knows.....and Sunday, I want to go to the open house at Strathcona Wilderness Centre and then stop off at Katies Crossing as they have a sale on their ice creams to celebrate the first weekend of Fall! :)

Rosie Posie waiting for bedtime last night....

Safety City field trip

Yesterday we had a homeschool field trip to Safety City for Sam!!
It was a really great class - all about road safety and how to cross the road safely! He learnt all about the seven steps of crossing the road safely.  Safety City is a mini town with real buildings and roads - child sized - and the children get to practice crossing the streets while their friends ride along the roads on mini quad bikes :)

First off was the classroom session where 'Safety Mike' taught us all about the Seven Safety Steps:

Then we went outside into Safety City to try it out on 'real' sidewalks:

The children were split into two groups - some rode the quads first and the other group were the pedestrians - they got to play a mailbox game which meant they had to cross several streets to get to various mailboxes and had to be careful of the 'cars' in the streets!!:

Abigail and the other older siblings were too big to join in and so they were given the job of working the  street lights and train signals:

Some children didn't abide by the signals lol - Sam was quite shocked that some children went through red lights hahaha:

The older children also had fun being pedestrians and getting in the way of the cars and generally playing about....sigh...I don't see many 'seven steps of safety' being used here:

The mini stores even have pretend tables and food inside the windows - its really cool!!  And the children were given drivers licences at the end by McDonalds that allow them to go and get a free bag of fries :)

Sam and his friends playing on the train afterwards while we were dishing out all the treats they got to take home:

Sam had a GREAT time :

Oilers v Canucks....

So last night was a lot of fun :)
I had supper with B at the Fireside Grill which is a restaurant opposite Rexall Place...nice food, fast, friendly service - I guess because they know everyone is going to the game...it's kind of a mix of foods as they had escargots, nice pasta dishes..as well as wings and burgers.

Luckily if you eat there you can leave your vehicle in their parking lot for the game :)  so I did that and then we headed over to Rexall for the game.

The game was a good one - Ryan Smyth played again for the Oilers after his time away and it was good to see him back :)  Such a nice guy - I remember when he left and was crying.  I remember him doing so much for the Stollery and when he went to the old lady's 100th birthday party and let her touch his hair :)

Sadly we lost 1-2 which I blame my date for...he is from Victoria and was supporting BOTH teams!!  Actually so was the guy sat the other side of me..so I was laughing because I was surrounded by traitors!!

It was a great evening.  So glad I decided to go :)  B heads back to work on Sunday but we have plans for when he is back in town.

Singing 'Oh Canada' :

Such an important message - wish EVERYONE realised this :(

Dear Happy Girl,

You may be fooled into thinking, after you have tried on the 7th dress of the morning, fretting and worrying over how slimming, how flattering and how new and fashionable each one is...that your friendships, your motherhood, your marriage or your day depends on what you wear.

You might even be fooled into thinking that the kind of car that you drive determines who you are as a human being, or that the neighborhood you live in decides your worth.

Every day we get fooled into thinking ridiculous things, sweet friend. The key to happiness is recognizing just how ridiculous these beliefs are, even if people around us are also fooled into believing them.

The people who matter in your life don't care what you wear, what you drive or where you live: they love that beautiful heart of yours.

So please stop putting so much pressure on yourself, friend. Stop measuring yourself by these crazy irrelevant standards. YOU are beautiful, amazing, talented, loving, funny, sweet and kind. Your clothes, your car and your house have nothing to do with ANY of that.

Just be you.

You are so loved.
xoxo
