Snowflake Bentley....

Some of you who have been reading my blog for a long time will remember my snowflake photography using my macro lens.  The first person to start taking pictures of snowflakes was Wilson 'Snowflake' Bentley.  Bentley was a farmer and he first photographed individual snowflakes in 1885!!!!!

Now ten of his precious pictures are coming up for sale at auction!!!!  You can read about the auction HERE and you can read more about the Snowflake Man himself HERE.

Here are a few of my shots from 2008:

Little Peeps...

Our Downy Woodpeckers...male (red head) and female...they take a sunflower seed from the feeder then jump to the post and pop it in a crack in the wood and tap it until the seed comes out of the shell!!  I took a few pictures then when it flew off I went out and refilled the feeder!!  There are seeds mixed in with the bread crumbs on the table too....

We call these birds 'Little Peep' and we call the big Woodpeckers (Hairy Woodpeckers) 'Big Peep'....because they all say 'peep'...very cute and lovely to hear....

Common Redpoll's

On Wednesday we had a flock of Common Redpoll's in the yard - they were feasting on the feeders and the bird tables that Lloyd knocked up quickly for me for the deck a couple of weeks ago.....they were very cute to watch.  Abigail enjoyed getting the bird books out to learn all about them - she liked learning that they can slide down snowbanks just like penguins!!!!

A sunset for you.....
