Ouch!!! Silly girl.....

My poor Amber girl...she met her match tonight and came in about 10 minutes ago witha mouth full of porcupine quills :(

I've got most of them out but three to go so we are giving her a break and will then check her over........she got attacked not long after we moved here so we've been through this before...but that was in her fur mainly - this is in her lips...the vet always says to check and recheck they are all out and then keep an eye to check its clean and not infected.......she was fine last time so I hope she is this time too.......

Silly Amber girl!!

So yes we get porcupines here but I've never seen one on our land - except the quills in Amber!!!! I've seen plenty of them elsewhere just not on our land........but I guess they are here...as my Amber-girl found out.......

:(

Optometry and bling.......

The ingredients for round 2 of The Iron Chef contest are 'monograms and BLING!!!' so that should be fun...and I went into town and bought some blingin' BLING to use on my layout :)

I had my optometry appointment tonight....I haven't had my eyes checked since 1992........and boy have things changed!!! Firstly they took me into a room where I had to sit in front of 4 machines and have air blown into my eyes...bright flashes going off in my eyes...had to follow lights and other weird things......then I had to wait for the real optometrist.....he was nice...he looked just like Ben STiller...I felt like I was being examined by Zoolander!!!!! Too funny....he was cute though and told me I should call him Sonny (lol) and then he laughed when I said I had 5 children! SIGH..........

Do you remember when I had my ECG at the hospital and was told I have an abnormal heart rhythm????? Well guess what! I hae abnormal eyes too lol! Firstly my left eye is shortsighted....my right eye is better but has a stigma (????) I only just need glasses but he thinks they will help with reading/ driving/ watching tv etc........

But the picture of my retinas concerned him....the part that connects my eye to the brain is 'abnormal'.......and whenever he sees that he has to do extra tests.....he asked about glaucoma which panicked me but then he didn't mention it again so I assume it isn't that.....anyway he toldf me to come back in a month for an extra test that I forget the name of...(was it field depth vision or something or other???) and the funny thing is that he told me to make an appointment for when he isn't there!!!! Should I take that personally??? Actually its so I don't have to pay...if I go back and see him I have to pay extra but if I see someone else it's free!!!

So I was given a prescription for glasses and went next door but was so hungry that I wasn't in the mood to focus on choosing glasses....I have hypoglycaemia and if I miss a meal I get the shakes...can't concentrate, get irritable very quickly and put myself at risk of migraines...so yes we left the store and went to get something to eat.....

So I have to go back and choose some glasses!!

I get home and Chris and I sit and work on his resume.......he wants a summer job - preferably at the local golf course.......now Lloyd is making tea and we are going to bed.....we are turning into a sad old couple who like to go to bed early with our cups of tea :) maybe Mom is right - I AM middle aged lol!

Going potty!!!!

At last!!! Sams potty is here!!! Yay! His lovely blue Baby Bjorn potty :) Nancy brought it round this afternoon......its the only really basic simple non-fancy potty I could find ANYWHERE!!!!!

Sam knew what to do straight away....he wanted his diaper off and then sat there looking down at his penis and saying 'peepee' very excitedly........now 'peepee' isn't a term we use here so I have NO idea where he learned that! But he seems to be keen to learn to use th epotty....so tomorrow we start!!!!

Tomorrow morning I am taking the children out for breakfast...Laurie is sleeping at his friends home tonight in town so I will take the other 4....and then between 1pm and 4pm they are bringing my new sofas...the ottoman will be another 6 or 7 weeks but the sofas will be here :)

Lloyd and I can't decide if we need a coffee table but I want one.....the room looks silly with a big space in the middle and I don't think a rug will be enough.......I also like somewhere to put my tea other than the end tables....and sometimes I like to spread out the paper or scrapbook there in front of the tv......or spread out bowls of treats when we have family movie night.......so I plan to hunt for a coffee table :) Lloyd only uses it for his feet and because we've ordered the ottoman he's happy with that.....but a small coffee table won't hurt...our old one was so huge maybe it just put him off.......

Anyway...tomorrow is potty day, breakfast out with the kids and then NEW SOFAS :) And then tomorrow night Costco for groceries to save going at the weekend....

Tomorrow we also find out if they can fit the big red sofas down into the basement.........Lynne.... do you remember my big red sofas? we bought them in Scotland ina furniture store that closed down just before we left.....forest furnishings or something? In that little town by the park where they have the wooden fort in the woods......I think the town began with D......

I remember taking Susannah with us to the store to order the sofas and she was about 3 and she was havinga temper tantrum (one of her only ones!) and I was holding her hand REALLY tight really aware that everyone was staring at her.......lol!

Heather!

Heather, LP is short for Linking Parents......a website for parents in Edmonton......4000 Moms (mainly Moms anyway) who chat via the forums/ message boards....

Its kind of like a dialy soap opera there and can be very NASTY at times......that said, there are times when its a very supportive place and you can get ANY question answered in seconds there.......

But I try to avoid it because there are people there who just drive me insane.......

Its almost 4pm....I'm covered in flour, cocoa and the resiude from baking 2 emergency chocolate cakes and a pan of brownies.........Susannah helped with the fudge topping for the brownies.......and measuring all the ingredients etc but basically the mixer does it all.............

Laurie and Susie cycled to the mailbox for me and came bag with a bag full..........Sam has been eating chocolate chips from my baking stash...just to keep him happy and out of the way lol........

Chris spent time on the phone to his friends and now has two friends sleeping over on Friday..........sigh...........

The children created animals and other delights using mini marshmallows and cocktail sticks.......Abigails kite was great I thought! Chris made a lion...he asked me to guess what it was and I said The Sphinx..........

My Mom phoned back......so we were chatting to her for a while...........

Chris made everyone lunch and Sam had fun eating noodles............

I got all the bedding washed...........

Tonight I have to see the optometrist and Lloyd is having his hair cut........I cleared out two more drawers of 'stuff' and threw a ton of it away again YAY!!!

La-z-boy phoned and said they will deliver between 1pm and 4pm tomorrow which works out perfectly as it means we can go out for breakfast!

I have to upload my pictures now............

A sexless marriage..........

On the view this morning they quoted an article from somewhere that states that if you ahve sex ten times or less a YEAR, then you are living a sexless marriage............

10 times a year........thats less than once a month! Why does that happen in a marriage? What leads to that?

Touchstones......

I was reading an article in a magazine yesterday.......the article was on happiness and how to put more 'happy' in your day.....

The article suggested having 'touchstones' for happiness......that EVERYONE should have objects or pictures or 'things' that shout 'HAPPY' to them.......or have something in your pocket or purse or car...it can be a picture of your husband who always makes you laugh.....or a painting you created that you are really proud of.......or a brooch from a Grandmother who you spent many happy times with....a photograph of a favourite place you have happy memories of.....

What are your 'happy' touchstones?

So I was thinking about this and I think that it is these touchstones that make a house a home......I hate those homes where the people went to Ikea and just bought everything there...they buy a 'look'....it isn't personal and it isn't 'them' it's just what they aspire to be.....but it doesn't make a home.........

I also can not STAND those shows where people go away on holiday and come home and find their home has been renovated and redecorated by the tv designers........HOW IMPERSONAL!!! If anyone ever 'surprised' me by decorating my home I would be devastated! I KNOW I would hate it.

I look around my home and it is filled with touches of 'happy' with memories and sentimental objects that remind me of people and places and happy times.......even my books are 'happy' touchstones............

I also have my gratitude journals that I keep in keepsake boxes...in fact my keepsake boxes are filled with all those 'happy' things I HAVE to keep but that I can't have out on display all of the time......paintings the children have done...cards they have made me...birthday cards, letters....gifts from friends......love letters and notes from Lloyd.............

So my advice would not be to have a 'happy touchstone'........but instead, to surround yourself with things you love and things that remind you of how you are loved....things that make you happy...things that make you laugh.....

Make your entire home your 'happy' touchstone............

interesting article on blogging........

Heather I edited it :) I was missing an M :)

Planning day.....

This morning has been lovely. I woke up around 8am and Sam was snuggled into me still....he was snuggled into my shoulder at 5:30 or whatever ridiculous time it was that Lloyd squeezed my hand and whispered goodbye.......so I lay there for a while watching Sammy sleep...all snuggled with his skin looking so rosy and warm and soft......he is growing up so fats and I know it won't be long before he doesn't sleep with us or snuggle with me in the mornings............

Once Sam was awake, I sat in bed with my coffee watching the local news...or what was left of it....and then I read the journal...actually I read Sundays journal (my favoruite of the week)......lots of interesting topics which I want to blog about later actually...........I phoned my Mom (no answer) so a little later Susie phoned my Mom and Mom said she would phone us back as they were waiting for her friend Liz to call them....Liz is having her chemo today and my Mom and Dad take her to hospital in the morning and then wait for her to call for them to go pick her up......so Mom will call later once they are home....

The kids then called all of their friends and planned Friday......when we will pick up their friends...what we will do....who is sleeping over here........and then Laurie got invited to a sleepover tonight.....

Eventually I got out of bed (lol) and cleaned the bathrooms....emptied the medicine cupboard and threw away meds from 2005 (yikes!) and then vacuumed upstairs......showered and came downstairs....

Now the girls and Sam are playing with the Barbies on the kitchen floor.....I bought a washing up bowl yesterday specifically for them to use on the floor for water play......and Susie also has an Avon inflatable 'foot spa' that I got free a couple of years ago and looks like an inflatable swimming pool for Barbie......so they are happily playing there and best of all it will get my kitchen floor clean because they will spill water everywhere! :) Maybe I should be concerned lol but now Susie is going to get Ken to go skinny dipping with the girl dolls in the 'hot tub' hhhmmmmmm......

Chris is sat in my big chair reading 'Ghost Stories of Alberta' and discussing Jack the Ripper............did I think he really existed...and then I shared my story of how I have been to the house of the Yorkshire Ripper (famous serial murderer in the UK) sad I know but I have very few claims to fame and this is one of mine!

Laurence is at the table painting his dragons.........he was outside earlier..took the garbage down for me and then played with the ping pong balls by hitting them onto the garage roof and waiting for them to roll down.......

So thats my day so far!
