Lauries letter

Laurences letter to the museum from yesterday......this is the photocopied copy (for his portfolio) and it seems to have cut off part of each line so thats why some of the words don't look quite right lol!

Footsteps through fresh snow..........

sledding again!

Abigail and Laurie have been out sledding this afternoon....Abigail didn't stay out qwuite as long but Laurie was out for ages, came in to warm up and then headed back out again. The snow is a little too deep on the hill right now so Laurie is working at creating a bob sled slope thingy by digging a trough through the snow - it works well! The dogs enjoyed watching :)

Gingerbread house craft........

Here is the gingerbread house that Susannah is busy making.......the instructions can be found in this months Family Fun magazine!!! I will add some pictures of the finished house when it

it's done!!!

Playin' trains..........

Two pals playing trains :)

In a slump...

I think maybe we are still all getting over that bug ew had last week......it has left a few of us feeling really lethargic and fed up. No motivation to do anything......

I am glad we have a lot of plans this weekend...hopefully that will kick my butt into action.....and maybe tomorrow we will head out too and get out of this place! A change of scene might be in order...

It is going to be a LONG winter....I am so glad we will have two weeks of being in the sun come January - it will be a welcome break from the snow :) Much needed :)

This afternoon the children went out sledding for a while making the most of the warmer temps for the day......Susannah is makinga gingerbread house from a cardboard box, following the instructions in the Family Fun magazine....

I have been very lazy and sat and read my Redbook magazine.......I should go for a walk or something. Maybe I can persuade Lloyd to come home early and we can go out on the quads for a ride and some fresh air......I should go out for na walk but I just feel so tired.....I ahven't had my iron either which I know I need :( My anaemia is quite bad atm.......that doesn't help :(

I will take a pic of Susie with her gingerbread house....

A story for Christmas......

A sweet love story for Christmas :)
'The Gift of the Magi'

Thursday

Chris is at work...Lloyd took him as the roads are bad...I have been threading strings onto baubles/ tree ornaments.......haven't done much else so have to go do something!!! I did email my wish list to Lloyd so he can go shopping!

Susie is learning about synonyms and writing riddles too. Laurence is making a lapbook about space suit technology. Abigail is using her kindergarten cd rom downstairs.

Sam has been playing with my button tin...scattering the buttons everywhere but having fun!

Lloyd is so funny - he has been shopping like crazy this week - for himself!!!! Well, he did bring me home a lovely bottle of perfume, but everything else was for himself which is really nice because he never buys himself anything! This week he bought himself three new pairs of shoes, two new sweaters and a really nice dark brown corduroy jacket...the funny thing is that he is buying this because of the movie The Lake House....he really likes the style of the Keanu Reeves character Alex! So he has been looking for clothes in a similar style....

He looks gorgeous in the jacket :)

He says he just has this mad impulse to shop!!!! So I sent my wishlist lol!

Heatwave!!!

Heatwave alert....appearing in this area for ONE DAY ONLY...we are officially warmer than -10!!!!!!! First day in AGES that we are warmer than -20..so the children will be sledding this afternoon for sure....

Tomorrow is set to be cold again grooooooooaaaaaan!!!

Susies letter

So the children wrote thank you letters to the museum today.....here is Susies. This afternoon we have been tidying up a bit and getting ready for the window company guy (who just phoned to say he will be an hour late lol!) and also Derek, the guy who is coming to do some dry walling, mudding and hopefully finish putting the crown moulding up! Oh and some door frames etc.....
The girls are making a cardboard gingerbread house they found in a craft magazine...using a shoebox and some other things.......Not sure what else they have all been doing but they all seem to have been busy all day.....
Sam and I are ill again - just don't ask :(
You can click on the picture above if you want to make it bigger to read it........I think she wrote a nice letter :)

Wednesday

My Mum phoned for a while this morning and then not long after, my Nan phoned too...she had spent the day at my parents house and had a look at my blog too :) My Nan is 95.

The children wrote thank you letters to the museum today to thank them for a lovely afternoon there on Monday.

I spent the morning decluttering my drawers in the study.

Abigail and Sam had the playdough out.

The man from Pella will be here shortly...FINALLY after a lot of date changes due to illness etc....we desperately need new windows.......they are sooooo BAD right now.....we had snow coming through our bedroom window the other day - a little drift of it! And now there is an inch of ice all around every window.....I wonder how soon they could get started......

Its date night but we are still undecided as to whether we will go out...or what we will do...we may just use tonight to go grocery shopping instead.....and go out another night.

I want to go and see the movie 'The Holiday' - not sure when that opens....

This afternoon is letter writing time for me......I want to write lots of letters to people to put in with Christmas cards...I hate to send impersonal notes or letters so I write to each person individually so it takes ages and I have to send off to the UK this week! I am such a hopeless procrastinator......

Lloyd brought me home a bottle of perfume last night :) I needed some :) In the bag were some little freebies of anti aging cream..........lol....but when I complained to Lloyd he pointed out that they were actually for men.... lol!

I like his wrinkles.....he has little lines by his eyes but on men they are sexy :) and his grey hairs :) but especially those eye lines that crinkle when he smiles :) Like Richard Gere in 'Unfaithful'! I wonder if he feels the same about my wrinkles.......hmmm NOT that I have any OF COURSE!!!!

And I wonder if I will still find his wrinkles endearing at 90!!!!!

Keeping warm by the fire

Charlie the pig warms up beside the fire on Chris's lap!

Sam sick last week.......

The top two pictures show sam sick last week and the bottom two show him when he was improving!

Christmas Craft afternoon

The children (and me - didn't know Laurie was taking that one lol) at the Christmas Craft Workshop on Saturday.....one of the pictures shows Susie winning the door prize too......

Field trip

Yesterday was the field trip I had planned for the local homeschoolers......to the museum. The roads were so nasty I was worried about driving into town but I took it slowly and took the Range roads instead of highways......the junctions were so slippery though because of the amount of snow......

Some of us met at McDonalds first for lunch...it was crowded there though.......then we headed to the museum. It was such a great afternoon....first of all we all sat in the Village Square while Starr (the museum manager) gave us a talk about the history of the museum...

Actually, she started off by telling how wonderful Chris is...what a great volunteer and how she didn't know children like him still existed....so polite and helpful and friendly! She said he was a credit to homeschoolers and before Chris she had not met any homeschoolers and didn't know much about homeschooling, but thanks to Chris she now sees how wonderful homeschooling can be! And she wants to encourage more homeschoolers to volunteer at the museum and use the museum for field trips because of the type of children homeschoolers are!!!!

So after a talk then we did a rain dance that went along with a First Nations tale about a frog! That was fun! We then split into groups and each group got to spend ten minutes or so in each part of the village.

We started off in the old school room....WOW is the bell ever loud! It would sound out across the farmland when the children were walking or riding horses to school. We got to write on the old slates with slate pencils (NOT easy!!)

We tried on the old fashioned softball mitt and goalkeepers padding and we felt the strap for naughty children ;) and we learnt about the red cross checklist for pioneer school children......whether they had brushed their teeth, drunk milk, had a weekly bath, used a handkerchief etc etc.......

We then moved into the old Church and the Barber shop.......Susannah sat in the chair with her head in the old hair dryer.....we learnt that the Barber would also pull teeth!!! :) I also learnt that my children didn't know what an ash tray was!! Isn't that great???? :)

After that was the Pioneers kitchen.......we learnt how to light the stove and the morning routine........imagine having no heating except in the kitchen on a day like today!!!! The children would fetch water from the well..........and all that before breakfast on a cold day like today! We saw the 100 year old ice cream scoop! the tiny fridge box (no room for cookie dough!!!)

After that was the First Nations room...the teepee where we got to play with all kinds of toys, held a piece ofMammoth tusk found by the North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton (wow imagine those walking around here!!!) and we got to try various tools they would have used for skinning animals, grinding berries etc etc we got to play on a drum made from hide too and learnt that you can embroider with colourfully dyed porcupine quills!

Next was the blacksmiths shed with all the tools, we learnt about the machine that makes rope, how to shoe a horse and all about wooden cart wheels................then the farmers barn where Susannah tried milking a cow and we learnt about old farming techniques in the area........then on to the animals of Alberta, the fossil room where they all got to hold the dinosaur bone..........then the old firestation and police cells!!! Then we headed to the general store which is actually a real store from the early days of Sherwood Park...the children got to play with some old toys, use the cash regsiter, try on some hats etc and look at how different the old packaging was.........it was great that so much of it all was 'hands on'!!!

After that we all met up again in the village square where we listened to the gramaphone and learnt a song about being a bum!!!!! :) I'm a bum, thank goodness I'm a bum, give me a hand out to help me along'.......................

Then it was free time to look around th emuseum so we headed to the Remembrance Day dispplay to see the collectiuon of dioramas they have there....a local man has been making them since he was 8 and he is now 57!!! They were amazing....so real!!! I'm glad we saw them before the display ends!

The roads on the way home were nasty and we skidded a few times but were ok.....I was glad to get home and to get Lloyd home too!

The children wantt o make dioramas this afternoon..........and Abigail wants to make one of the First Nations toys we played with yesterday!

The weekend

This last weekend was mainly spent curled up with Sam still sick...but Lloyd and I did get out for a while and got caught up with some Christmas shopping.......

LUCKILY, the Christmas craft workshop from the week before was postponed until this last weekend, which meant I was able to take the children to it after all!! We had so much fun. Abigail and Susannah both won door prizes!!!! We made so many crafts.....I loved the little snowmen we made especially....but we also made wreaths, traditional Dutch crafts, festive notebooks........and the homemade cookies provided were delicious :)

As a family we also curled up and watched some movies....The Polar Express and Nanny McPhee.......What a FAB movie Nanny McPhee is!!!!! Wow!!!! I LOVED it! Just brilliant and yes I bawled my eyes out to it.......Lloyd and I also wtached The Lake House again...Lloyds new favourite movie I think as he put it on again last night :)

Sunday was Lloyds Dads birthday - Happy Birthday Chris! So Lloyd and the children phoned to say Happy Birthday. They are coming to visit in about 3 weeks time! My Mum phoned too - she was watching the Abba reunion on tv and had just come back from my Nephews Christmas school Fair. My Nephew is 5....Santa gave him a dinosaur egg :)

I am happy that we have got a lot of the Christmas shopping done now...I also bought my Christmas cards and sat and wrote them on Saturday.

Lloyd started putting up the crown moulding in the sitting room...it looks great :)

Not posting

I haven't posted in a while. I haven't been motivated or interested to be on the computer much or to blog.

Its very cold here right now....this morning is -28c.......but the windchill is at times -40c (windchill is the temperature it actual feels like) and this means 10 minutes and you can get frostbite.......it means no playing outside...it means your nostrils freeze as soon as you step outside...which actually feels as though you have lots of bogies/ boogers in your nose...it's a weird feeling!

The poor dogs are fed up because they can't go outside and play for long. And I haven't taken them for a walk since last week.

We normally get this weather for a couple of weeks at the end of January.......NOT November!
It hasn't been this cold in November for 10 years here.

Anyway....I will try and add a few posts but mainly because I have had so many emails and PM's from people saying they miss my blog! I was going to stop blogging but we will see how it goes and how much time I have......

It's Tuesday.....the roads were so nasty yesterday that I am staying home - which is good because Lloyd took my truck keys to work with him by accident lol - and he also has my purse in his car so I guess I can't go anywhere anyway ;)

Sunset time again...........

Last nights sunset for you!!

Nov 17, 2006

Thank *&$@# its Friday!!!

Its Friday...and although I have a busy weekend, I am glad the weekend is almost here......I have a photo shoot this afternoon and then three this weekend......we are going to a Christmas ornament making workshop tomorrow afternoon......I then have to edit all the pictures from the shoots and get them onto CD for Monday/ Tuesday.........

Chris annoyed me this morning. He said its Rock and Ride night and that a week ago he invited his girlfriend to go again and said Lloyd would take and pick up.....

Last month the agreement was that we would do one way and this girls family would do the other....as Lloyd did both ways last month.....but also Chris didn't even mention that it was this week...so he tells me this morning...I ask if Dad knows and he says 'I think so'........well NO he doesn't know!!! Lloyd didn't sleep well last night either so does not want to be driving at midnight tonight so we have said he can only go if this girls family can pick up afterwards......I can't see that happening somehow!

What have we been up to this morning? I have cleaned the bathrooms, vacuumed the entire house and washed all the floors....Chris dusted........Susie cleaned baseboards and the bannisters, Laurie fed the animals and watched Sam while we cleaned.....Abby is in bed not feeling well (grooooooan)

Now the boys are busy doing something in the basement......Susie is reading stories to Abby and Sam on my bed and I am taking a break to have some breakfast before moving on to the next chore......

I need to charge up my batteries for my camera.....I need to wipe clean the memory cards and check my lighting for this afternoon...I also need to go out and clean up after the dogs before the clients arrive.......

I am having a snow fun playdate on Monday - lots of people coming to sled, play and have lunch...BUT now they forecast warm weather until Monday so we might just have a slushy mess :( so I may have to postpone!!

We didn't get to watch Click last night as we sat and watched 'Last Holiday' instead...which I really enjoyed...its a really simple fun movie...you don't have to concentrate much and it was quite sweet :)

So anyway here are my veggies from tonights dinner...ready to go into the rice when its almost ready.................We are having my special savoury brown rice with the garlic veggie balls from Costco!!! Yum!!!! We cook the veggieballs in a sweet and sour sauce.....
The vegetables on tonights menu are broccoli, carrots, yellow and orange peppers and grape tomato's..................I may get some corn out too............
I love the smell of brown rice cooking.................mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
So what vegetables are on the menu for you tonight???????

my new friend.....

He looked so cold out there on his own....and if we can have a pig in the house then we can piggin well have a snowman too! He can just cuddle up with Ken and I tonight and watch tv :)

mmmmmmmm

Mmmm nothing like a hot cup of INSTANT coffee to warm you on a winters afternoon....
..........is there Rod???????????????

the raisin hunt

I know its in here somewhere............Lloyd dropped a raisin in here and I'm hungry and my cupboards are bare...................

Yikes!!

If thats how big the batteries how #*%$# big is the vibrator??????

sleepyhead

I am so sleepy!!! Someone slap me!!!! I know its because of lack of sleep last night but I still feel as though its been a waste of a day. I can't wait for Lloyd to come home.......

On the subject of husbands....sometimes I can't believe the things people post on websites about their husbands......the personal things!!!! Yesterday my chin hit the floor when I read a certain post.......I told Lloyd about it last night and he couldn't quite believe someone would post that either!!!!

Chris finishes work soon and then Lloyd will be picking him up and coming home.......

I soaked in the bath for a while earlier.........Laurie and Susie watched Click but are not allowed to tell me anything about it....Lloyd and I are watching it tonight! They did say it was funny and sad though!

I have a photo shoot tomorrow...the client coming sounds so excited which is lovely!

I work well and am motivated when I am under pressure from a deadline....the house is a total tip right now, but tomorrow morning I will clean it from top to bottom because I HAVE to :)

This week has been a bit of a flop 'schoolwork' wise.....and now nothing will be done until Wednesday next week...we really do need to DO something!!! But there just always seems to be more insteresting fun stuff to do.......or days like today when we accomplish NOTHING.......

I am feeling blah right now.....this week has been very blah.......hmmm Susan are the blahs catching????????

Pella windows

Someone (was it Kathy??????) asked about Pella windows.....Pella are the company we are going with for our new windows...we have looked at many different companies but we love the quality and workmanship that comes with Pella windows...

http://www.pella.com/products/windows_patiodoors/Detail.asppath=/products/windows/doublehung/designer

This (above link) is the style we are having throughout the house...

http://www.pella.com/products/windows_patiodoors/BowBayDetail.asp?path=/products/windows/bow

This (above) is the bay window which will have a deep window seat and will overlook the pond/ sledding hill.

Not sure about the bathroom window but it will be large and level with the top of the bath so you can soak in the bath and look out of the window!

I like that Pella does the retractable insect screens.....and I love their between the glass window 'fashions'.....we will need that on certain windows because the sun hits certain places during the day......

Anyway the website tells you all about their windows, how they are made etc etc.......

Our windows right now are really ugly and VERY draughty..they are the original ones from when the house was built and desperately need replacing........as does the furnace.....kitchen....bathrooms.....

Lloyd jokes that this place should be named the 'money pit'....... ;)

Date night NOT!!!

We haven't had a decent date night in weeks :(

Last night we had to take Rosie and Amber to the vets (note to self - NEVER book both dogs in the same night again!!!) Amber had to have her injections and Rosie had to have her stitches out. It was chaos. Amber is a crazy girl...totally hyperactive...needs to be on ritalin!!!! Rosie was fine thankfully!

Our vet is wonderful and always remembers Amber and teases her for being so crazy......

We picked up Sams passport from the post office last night......so funny seeing a Canadian passport! Its black :) My little Canadian has his very own Canadian passport!

We went to Tims for supper (woohoo big spenders huh???) and the British woman who served us was a miserable cow...and then they got my order wrong :(

Then we went to Blockbusters to buy The Lake House on dvd....but ended up buying 'Click' instead.

Then I made DH drive to the mall so I could run in to Hallmark.....there was something I wanted to get....I looked awful as I hadn't touched my hair since we went swimming and I was covered in dog hair from holding Amber at the vets etc .........and of course I get a PM today from someone that said they saw me but didn't get a chance to say hi!!!! Of course this person is stunning and always looks so glam!!! TYPICAL!!!!!! Can you tell I had a fun evening??????

I came home and as I had had a migraine since mid afternoon I took Imitrex and went straight to bed.

Glad the day was done.......hoping today would be better!

Roll on Friday :)

And yes I can kind of laugh at my crappy days now........but I was NOT laughing earlier!!!

What a morning!!!!

I have been in a bad mood since yesterday afternoon...no idea why but don't pick a fight with me today - ok??????

This morning has been the morning from hell! We did not sleep well. I went to bed at 9pm last night with a migraine and some Imitrex........woke up a few hours later and could hear the pig banging her pen....that finally stopped and then all I could hear was drip drip drip outside...the snow was melting on the roof and dripping somewhere grrrrrr......then the winds started and boy were they strong...hurricane conditions in BC that tore down trees and a building...not quite that bad here but very strong and they were whipping around the house...I thought the windows were going to blow in...the meshy things all got sucked out.......Abigail came into our room scared by the winds and this morning I found Laurie in Abigails bed as he had had nightmares about Tornadoes......so very little sleep was had by anyone...except Sam who slept all night..

TYPICAL!!!

So this morning I was awake at 7:30am and woke the kids up as they had to take all the garbage down to the road.....we can't put it out the night before because animals will rip into it....and the box only holds a few bags....

Well getting them to do that was a real hassle in itself......

Finally we were ready to leave at 9:50am - we already knew Chris would be late for work. Sam started crying on the way into town...we had no soothers with us grrrrr...so we dropped CHris at work and then ran around to a house to drop off a cheque for some cookie dough we are ordering.......got lost in the subdivision(my fault) - the directions I wrote down were - head towards showhomes go straight across traffic circle, turn left house on right..........

Well there are two roads that go towards different showhomes and both have traffic circles...needless to say I went to the wrong one.....all this time Sam is still screaming :(

The roads in the subdivision were like sheets of ice...OMG they were awful....I always thought rural roads would be worse but no way..our roads are fine in comparison!

Anyway we finally find the house and leave the cheque and I decide it is futile to wiat in town for my appt at the bank with Sam screaming....so we head to Shoppers and buy some soothers (which Sam then throws on the floor because he is in such a bad mood he is beyong soothing!! So my cell phone is dead...I run into Glen Allen rec to use the payphone....I have never used a Canadian payphone before and can't figure it out...finally put my money in, dial the number and it says 'this is a long distance number, you can use your credit card or charge the call' WHY??? WHY????? So I give up and go back to the car...sam is still screaming...seems like there is no reason though...just bad mood.

I plug in my cell phone into the car and finally get a signal.....can't get hold of Lloyd...and it won't let me leave a message...he finally calls me back...I tell him to cancel my bank appt and I am going home!

Came home.....Sam is now happy in front of Treehouse and I have drowned my sorrows in a cup of coffee and far too many pieces of peanut butter on toast (and a twix but we won't mention that!!)

The morning is officially over now THANKFULLY................

Nov 15, 2006

My poor baby

Poor Lloyd had such a bad day yesterday.......what with falling and hurting his leg and losing his blackberry etc etc....

Then we were sat havinga cup of tea and some Lassy Mogs cookies in the evening and he drops a raisin in his tea......he gives me this sad sad look (kinda jokingly) and says 'I am having such a bad day and now I dropped a raisin in my tea!!! Can it get much worse???)

I think he was glad to get the day over with...we were asleep in bed by 10pm and his day seems to be going much better today!!! :)

vets

Lol - our vets just called to say Amber is due to ahyve her vaccinations from the 19th.........would we like to book her in???? Well uh yeah...she already has an appointment - for TONIGHT!!!! :) lol...

Blackberry..........................

Lloyd just phoned........he went into Rogers to buy a new blackberry because he lost his yesterday.....well some very kind soul had handed it in!!!!! He went in and asked yesterday but no use so he cancelled all his services through it - but not until I had emailed the blackberry his number asking for someone to call it if they got it etc etc....

Anyway it is scratched from where he dropped it...maybe a car went over it lol....but it works and is fine so thats wonderful :) and saves us $500 for a new one :)

There are good people in this world :)

Millennium fun...................

The kids having a blast at MP today..................

Swimming with five............

This morning we drove into town (roads were in really good shape despite all that snow!!) and we went to Millennium Place for a few hours...we went swimming and this time we ALL went......it was actually the first time I have taken all five swimmingt by myself...we normally put Sam in the babysitting service...................but it was ok.....he LOVED it of course and as you can see by the above pics, he was tired after all that splashing around in the water.....
After an hour or so I took Abigail and Sam out and we went in the indoor playground...Susie stayed in the pool with her brothers for a bit longer...then they joined us in the playground for a while before we headed out of MP.
After MP we went to the mall and got some lunch, then did a bit of shopping in Safeway and then went to the library......................and then it started to snow so we finished off at the library and headed home......
Amber has her vaccinations tonight and Rosie has to go and have her stitches out...so a trek to the vets is in order.................the roads were clear but VERY slushy coming home because it got up to 4c today.......I used a LOT of washer fluid on my car windows on the way home................I am sure the roads will freeze badly tonight :( thats not good but I did see a lot of gritters/ sanders out today....so hopefully it won't be too bad.....
I have a bit of a headache but tylenol seems to be helping thankfully....

Pop!!!!! goes the top..................

One of my favourite things to do is pop open the top of a new jar of coffee and smell the scent as it is set free :) Everyone here knows that so now Lloyd and Chris or whoever will track me down and bring me the jar to open :)

This afternoon when we got home Chris made some coffee and he brought me the new jar to open :)

Oink!!!

Charlie having her daily apple yesterday.......

doesn't she look happy? She is such a sweetie pie!!
