Susie bakes...

Susannah making the mince pies earlier....and the last picture shows her taking a picture of the end result ready to blog!

Mince pies.....

The mince pies - including Susies giant one.....and my brandy butter :) Which means I've almost used a whole bottle since Christmas GULP!!!!

Late...

Urgh......the game started late and they are in the last few minutes now. So Lloyd is still in Sherwood Park with Chris. the snow is still coming down heavily and I am just looking forward to them getting home.

Sam is still not himself...Abigail is cranky from over-excitement about her birthday. Susie is hyper from brandy butter and mince pies.....the phone keeps ringing for Laurie constantly and we are all hungry - but we are having dinner when Lloyd gets home so I daren't give them snacks....

Chris's team is winning at least - with 3 minutes to go.

Susie made me a dozen puff pastry mince pies tonight - and she used the pastry scraps to make herself a big mince pie pasty! I made brandy butter to go with them....YUMMY!

I have pictures so I will add them in a little while.

Guess what I am - part two!

Can you guess what these are????

Mary Engelbreit

I LOVE Mary Engelbreit...I love the whimsy style of her work...and her magazine is wonderful...I saw this girl in one of the adverts in the magazine and thought she was so cute - I'm cutting her out and putting her in my journal!

Surprise...

I asked Lloyd to pick me up a scrapbooking magazine on Sunday, and he came home with this board game lol! Not quite what I was expecting lol! Fun though! I opened it today and had a look and it looks quite good!

Paper doll fun.....

A had fun with this red riding hood paper doll today...and then we surfed online for more paper dolls which we printed out and A cut them out herself. Good for cutting practice - with all those fiddly parts!

My day...

Hmmmm its 3:20pm. Susie and Laurence will be home very soon. Chris has a basketball match that Lloyd is going to watch in town. It hasn't started to snow yet but I still keep getting the warnings emailed to me.

I have had work to do on the computer today - I like this because it makes me feel like I am doing my part for the business. Basically I have to trail through various websites and download all the information for upcoming projects that require IT resources...I have to download all the relevant application downloads and info and sort that...and will have to prep the responses from our business.

I feel almost business-like discussing my rfp's and the apc and various documents....I have to get organized though and have all the resumes ready to be matched to rfp's and ready to go on time.

I am so easily distracted though and find myself at LP again and again.....its a good job my boss can't fire me!!!

Sam has been cranky today...and sleepy so I hope he isn't ill. He tipped talcum powder all over my bedroom and for some reason we can't vacuum it up without getting nasty static shocks! Lloyd is going to check the humidifier later but maybe its something in the powder?????

Abigail has been busy - aside from our bones study, she has done a ton of work in her reading workbook - today we focussed on 'alphabetical order' and I wasn't sure she would grasp it easily, but she flew through it with no problems. Of course she is only alphabetising the first letter and hasn't had to deal with figuring it out from the second letter!

She did a few pages of math too.....

I cut out a paper doll for Abby - red riding hood - from my Mary Engelbreit magazine and she loved that so we then went surfing for more paper dolls that she could cut out herself.

All in all we haven't done a lot today but the day has passed by fairly quickly...

Laurie and Susie are home now and Laurie is making me a cup of coffee :)

I am defrosting some ready made pastry and plan to make some mince pies later and some brandy butter! It isn't Christmas BUT I made some lovely ones at Christmas and for some reason one of the children thought I had said to give them all to Charlie!!!! So they all got thrown away! I was so sad - so I bought a jar of sweet mincemeat and plan to make some more :)

Tonight I have to wrap birthday gifts because tomorrow Abigail is SIX!!!! :)

Guess what I am....answers!!

1. Book

2. Wasp nest

3. door handle

4. dish soap with scrubbing bubbles!

5. paper trimmer

Well done everyone :) I will do this again in the next few days and try and make it more difficult!!

Bones...

Head over to our homeschool blog to check out a video showing what we have been up to today!!!

Bones!

Today we learned about bones! A read a book about the skeleton to me. It showed how we need joints to be able to move. A had to answer a series of questions about the skeleton...about what the skull protects etc. Then we had to do an experiment!

We had to try walking around the house with no knee joints......so we couldn't bend our legs at all....then we had to try and climb the stairs - that is NOT easy with no knees!

After that we had to try and do things with no elbows! I had A try and eat some mini marshmallows with no elbows - it is almost impossible without eating like a dog! So in the end we figured out we could try and throw the marshmallows in the air with a flick of the spoon and catch them. Here is A trying it out!

In the news today...

We are under a heavy snowfall warning...the snow should start falling shortly, and is supposed to continue until tomorrow morning. 10cm of snow...which doesn't seem that much to me but is considered 'heavy snowfall'.

They say the roads may be bad for the drive home tonight. Lloyd has to drive in to town to watch Chris's basketball semi finals. Roads in the morning will be much worse though. Lloyd may take my truck instead of his car - his car is 4 X 4 but I still prefer him to take the truck in bad weather.

It makes me think that the worry over the occasional - once or twice a year hurricane in Florida is less of a concern than the five months or so of bad driving weather here.....

This morning on the news they were also saying that Fort McMurray (Fort McMoney as they call it here although I don't see the salaries being THAT big there - certainly not worth living apart for imo) has three times the national average of drugs crimes/offences!!!!!!

Most news stories at the moment seem to follow the provincial election.....I think I am the only person in Alberta who thinks Stelmach is doing a pretty good job. I think people have unrealistic expectations of how fast changes can be made in certain areas. I also think people don't realise that many decisions are not as simple as they seem to the majority.

I do NOT like Mason - I don't even like the way he looks - he looks nasty. But I do quite like Taft.

Purely selfishly though, as a business owner and a home owner, we seem to be doing very well under the conservatives....and I'm not sure how that would change under the liberals.....

I like the conservatives running Alberta but the Liberals running Canada...that seemed to work well. I can't stand the Conservatives running the country!
