My new job

I am having second thoughts about the preschool instructor job I agreed to take.....I have no contract or anything yet and to be honest I am really concerned about how the whole position and organization is run.....I'll just say that I found out yesterday afternoon...not from my boss but from someone else...that I would not be employed...I would be a contractor...which I think would mean that I would also not be covered if anything were to happen to a child in my care or to the hall.....so I would have to take out my own insurance...would have to pay tax at the end of the year.....yet would get no financial benefit for being a contractor compared to being employed......the wages are VERY low for contract work.

But what concerns me the most is it is impossible to speak to anyone above me....impossible to get any information or assistance....I have not been interviewed...have not even met anyone hiring me.....have not been asked for any references......I know nothing about wage, start dates, hours.....

Nothing hs been mentioned to me yet they have given me the keys, the files and I have been told I am lead instructor.....

I find the whole thing bizarre and it really concerns me.....I'm not sure this is a situation I want to be involved with...one day all this could well blow up in their faces.....

childcare and early education is much stricter back home.......here it seems anyone can do it....no matter of training or skill or personality.......

It would take only one accident involving a child for all this to come to light and its a real worry.

With this in mind though, and after having planned and prepared a wonderful early education curriculum, I realise that I would like to work in this area...so I think I will check out college courses for preschool instructors.

I really need to speak to my boss about all of this and air my concerns and get my questions answered...but its next to impossible to get hold of her....calls go unanswered and emails too!

What would you do? The children in this area deserve a decent preK education...they deserve an interested and capable teacher who has the ability to change the current program for the better and prepare them for school with the knowledge they need......parents are paying for this believing their children will be attending a great Pre K with educational activities...not a play group with no aims and goals.

Oh I don't know.....I'm so disappointed but I don't want to get in over my head and risk everything because of the way it is run.....
