The bug room.....

One of our favourite parts of the museum is the bug room.....and today we spent ages in there looking at all the different bugs and seeing how they had changed since last time! The Millipede was really active today....but the bug that had us most fascinated was the Giant Waterbug!!! The female lays the eggs on the males back where they are protected!!! So we were watching the eggs and noticed that some of them had already hatched and then we noticed some were hatching while we were stood there!!! It was amazing! They would pop out - squeezing out of the tiny hole all white and jellified and then slowly change black into the beetle like creature. So weird! there were hundreds of babies swimming about in the water! But the males look so weird with the eggs on their backs! So amazing to watch!
