Ringing the Friendship bell......

silly people!!!!

Susannah was standing near this Japanese statue and happened to peer inside....she noticed people had been leaving money inside....so, not knowing why, but assuming it was for luck, we all put some inside as we passed.........

The Devonian Botanical Gardens...

So yesterday we spent a few hours at the Botanical Gardens in Devon.........it was cloudy which helped and it didn't feel as hot....here are a few pictures from our visit....

It's official...

This is the hottest July EVER for Edmonton....they announced this on the news today.....

Its 31c again today........and only a 30% chance of a thunder shower tonight!

We could do with a little rain......the grass is all dry and crunchy now.....

I don't want rian like the UK is getting, but a little rain would be good!

Always nice to hear...

Susies friends Mom called this morning to say the girls are having so much fun that they'd like Susie to stay until after supper......thats so nice :)

Hangin' around......

At the playground by Astotin Lake......

Grrrrr Blogger!

Stupid blogger is not working in Firefox today...and Safari is so slow!

Bison herds....

A few pics of Bison along the roadside...and one of the bison in the picnic area at midnight!

Busy weekend.....

We seem to have crammed a lot into this weekend...and I have a ton of pictures to add.....

Where to start?

Yesterday I went to the mall with Mom to do some shopping. Chris and Oliver came and went off to do there own thing....we went into Cotton Ginny and I bought two pairs of shorts - I figure if this weather is here to stay then I may as well buy some shorts to enjoy it in!

While we were in there, the Manager noticed Moms Marks and Spencer shopping bag.....so we started talking about the UK (she lived there for a year) and then she mentioned she had just hired a British girl who was terribly homesick....so she introduced us to her and we were there chatting for ages.....

She's 17 and misses her Grandmother very much....she has had to go into High School despite the fact she was 2 weeks off leaving school in the UK.......she was very sweet and I kept telling her to give it 3 years.....they say it takes 3 years before you feel like a place is home and the homesickness goes......

After shopping we went to pick Laurie up from his sleepover....came home and I mde cool veggie pizza for supper......

Around 8pm we packed everything into the car and headed off to Elk Island Park.....we lit a fire by Astotin Lake and made S'mores while the boys played soccer and the girls played on the climbing frames at the playground....

We stayed there until 11:30pm and then drove down towards Tawayik Lake....there we watched the stars for a while after watching a herd of bison creep through the picnic area...when we got back to the truck, we saw MORE bison by the parking lot ...they had probably been watching us.....we waited for them to walk on and we continued to watch the stars....I saw a shooting star!

All of a sudden we heard something RUNNING through the trees at us!! So we all dived into the truck! It didn't come out of the trees though so we got back out....

It was a very late night but fun being in Elk Island in the dark again...we haven't done that for so long!

This morning we were all tired from our late night, but we got up and took Mom to the Devonian Botanical Gardens........it was very warm...around 28c but it was cloudy so it was perfect...it didn't feel too hot at all!

We strolled through the Japanese gardens....rang the Friendship bell......enjoyed the butterfly house......had ice creams by the cafe......walked by the duck pond and the girls had fun in the maze.....tasted plants in the edible garden and waved to the Bride that passed us on her way to her wedding marquee.............

Once we got home, I had to drive Susie about an hour to her friends home where she is sleeping over....when we got there, her friend was in their pool...luckily I had suggested Susie take her swim suit...so she was happy to get changed and join in the fun....I'll pick her up tomorrow afternoon....

Got home and Lloyd and I made butter chicken for dinner with poppadoms...everyone loved it.....

Then Lloyd and I went for a ride on his quad bike (mine is still broken boohoo)

Now I am catching up with my blog then I plan to go and shower and get ready for bed and read some more of the Jane Green novel I'm reading.....Swapping Lives.......

Ok so I will add some pictures from this weekend!

I hope you all had a fun weekend! What did you all get up to?

Oh and next weekend I am doing NOTHING!!!!!! Just relaxing at home :)

Breakfast for 11.......

Yesterday morning we met Val and some of her crew for breakfast....there were 11 of us in all and it was so much fun! Grace wasn't there which was a shame (especially as the girl overcharged us for everything!!!)

The 4 boys sat together at one table and the rest of us were at another.......it really was a great breakfast :)

This pic is from my cell phone so it isn't very clear...

Fire...

Edmontons largest ever fire is still burning.....a condo block (condoms as my Mom calls them lol) and 9 houses totally destroyed......and 18 others damaged.....

So many homeless families in a city that is already struggling with homelessness....

And the homes burned are townhomes....and I guess I should never assume but I am sure that many of them won't have contents insurance.....when finances are tight its the contents insurance that is often the first to get cancelled.......

Terribly sad........but thankfully no one died.....

The Illusionist......

What a FABULOUS movie......so passionate and so clever and I really didn't guess the ending at all...which is a sign of a great movie because I always seem to know how they will end!!!

I love Edward Norton - he seems to pick the movies he does really well and they are always so good - such a great actor!

I was sat on the bed reading last night and Lloyd started to watch The Illusionist...well within a couple of minutes I had put the book down and was GLUED to the tv watching the movie!

TOTALLY recommend this movie!
