Hello from a very sleepy Jane....waking up in beautiful Whistler to a mountain that is dusted lightly with snow - like icing sugar was sifted over them gently.
I'm sat here in my Fairmont towelling robe and have to say I could get used to this rich lifestyle....oh boy! Even the newspaper was left outside the door in a velvet bag!
And we were greeted at the airport by a chauffer with a sign that had our business name on it.....and outside was a stretch limo!!!!!!! It's a Lincoln Navigator stretch limo - with a twinkly light ceiling, tv's bar, and seats all around the edge!!
Lloyd and I didn't ride with everyone else - we hired a Lincoln Navigator (NOT stretch) and followed the limo - butu Susie and Laurie rode in the limo with everyone else - had to laugh as we stopped in N Vancouver for supper and it was raining - the chauffer got out with an umbrella to hold up for everyone as he opened the door....and they all walked off - Susie forgot her purse so she ran back the car only for the chauffer to rush up and hold the umbrella for her and open the door - she was sooooooo happy! I kept laughing out loud to Lloyd about how spoiled our children are to be riding in a limo at age 9. I am 35 and have NEVER even sat in a limo!!!!
We looked at the paper this morning to find a plane had crashed in Vancouver yesterday.....it crashed into an apartment block at 4pm. Vancouver airports first crash in 10 years....and we landed 15 minutes later. We had no idea. So I'm feeling very grateful this morning that we all arrived safely.
This morning we are meeting everyone at 10am and walking down to the village for brunch somewhere. Not sure what the plans are for the rest of the day - apart from tonights casino royale night here in the hotel and a little set-up for the conference.
The people we are with seem very nice - one couple has two little girls and another due November....another family should arrive this morning with their two children too....
The hotel is lovely - it was so nice to drive up to the door and have someone open my door - they unloaded all the luggage and then drove our car away so we just ahd to walk into the hotel. We get complimentary high speed internet because we were upgraded to the Presidents club here at Fairmont which is ideal for me lol! The bath products in the bathroom here smell gorgeous - gonna have to take a few home lol! And the teas are also soooo good - I had several last night!
First impressions of Vancouver - it rained from the minute we arrived until the minute we went to bed - and oh my goodness I had forgotten what British roads are like - the roads here are the same - all bendy and twisty - like riding a rollercoaster! I threw up in the car - felt better after that lol! I love the straight roads in Alberta! No travel sickness! Vancouver still has all the leaves on the trees though and its beautiful - quite nice seeing all the hills in the city.
The traffic in Vancouver is a nightmare! I would not want to live here - maybe Vancouver island but not here.
Westjet was FAB - totally recommend them - the flight attendant was the guy from Four Square (I swear!!! lol) same accent, same face and I kept expectinig him to say 'Hepa'! hahahahaha! But they were so great!
It was gorgeous fling over the sea to get into the airport - you could see the ferries crossing the water to the islands.....so nice :) Lakes just do NOT compare to the sea :)
We arrived at the hotel at 9pm so saw Whistler in the dark - it was nice to wake up and see the view in daylight!
Rooms are very nice and hotel staff are great - but I wouldn't pay $1300 a night for this - the rooms are small...although I must say that the actual bed is worth every penny!!! It is like Sams bed - Val you MUST get a pillow top bed OMG I had the bEST nights sleep!! Sooooooo cosy and comfortable!!!!!
Well I have to go and shower and get dressed ready for brunch! I will blog the pictures later...
