On thin ice...

Lloyd and Sam looking out over the frozen North Saskatchewan River....

With our warm temperatures of late, and many parts of the North Saskatchewan river already melted, we were really surprised to see this truck and small crane down on the ice under the bridge today - especially as the ice there already looked quite watery and glassy!!

Well, I guess they know what they are doing ;)

Soon the river will thaw completely.  This river is the only one to flow INLAND!!!  It flows from the Rocky Mountains and come Spring the water levels will rise from the snow melting in the mountains.  It will thaw but there will be big chunks of ice coming down the river for a while....

For a while people will risk it and walk on the ice - often people fall through and quite often they let their dogs continue to walk on the ice or get too close and dogs often need to be rescued in Spring from the cold water where they run on to the thin ice and fall through :(

STAY OFF!!!
