Saturday

Its a gorgeous sunny day today but cold.....Chris slept over at his friends in town yesterday..they are going to the movies today - Chris's treat as he has some free passes he earned at the library last year when he was a volunteer....

Lloyd has taken Susie out this morning and they have to pick up some more paint for the bedroom because the tin that was in the workshop all winter got ruined.....he also needs a steamer because we can'g get the horrid 80's style sports border off of the wall.....

Laurie and I just tidied the kitchen.....Sam and Abigail are playing downstairs...I caught up on a few emails....Lloyds Mom phoned him to say Happy Easter.....

Thats our day so far...it's 11am...I;m not dressed yet so I am thankful the webcam isn't on ;)

Lloyd seems to think that Derek will start the bathroom reno's in aweek or two.....YIKES....chaos for a few weeks, an extra person living at the house and we will be down to one bathroom that is off the mudroom!!!! Still it will be worth it - please tell me it will be worth it and when I am pullling my hair out in a few weeks becauswe of the dust and dirt and chaos and lack of privacy, please remind me it is worth the chaos for a nice new bathroom that doesn't smell like a public bathroom......YUCK I hate our bathrooms....they are so old and were not made very well - the guy in the house did it himself and they didn't cut tile around the toilet...instead they just filled it with extra grout which over the years has cracked and is full of pee and god knows what and smells so bad and is IMPOSSIBLE to get clean :( The baseboards don't reach the floor which means water (and pee YUCK) can get underneath and is impossible to clean properly......the bath is a yucky old grey thing...........and the taps are this brassy stuff that is all rusty and has these plastic clear handles..the sinks are all cracked badly.......oh boy our bathrooms are grim.....I will take before and after pictures......I LOVE baths and I hate not having a nice bathroom to relax in........I don't want a jazzy jetted tub or anything big or super duper...I want an extra-short bath tub with a lovely sloping back........one that I can soak in without struggling to stay above water.....something comfortable and relaxing......a nice white suite with a one piece toilet that makes cleaning much easier.....and we are having a big window put in, so I can soak in the bath and look out at the fields.....

Laurie is making me a cup of coffee :) and then we are going to make chocolate crispy cake nests and put mni eggs in them :)

But first I need to go and shower and get dressed....so so lazy today :)

Hi Michelle!

So I just admitted my third and final piece into the Iron Chef contest for round 2.....you can see my pieces and those I am competing against in the readers gallery at www.scrappershaven.ca WISH ME LUCK PLEASE!!!!!!

Here is my third piece - it is a birthday card shaped like a purse...with monogram and bling as required...so I ahve this card, the Rhinestone Cowgirl layout and the altered tube/ money box as my three pieces....

GULP!!

The contest closes on Sunday night and we find out on Monday or Tuesday...who has won and goes through to the next round.....and then Wednesday we find out what the new ingredients are!

Odd movies...

Christies comment about odd movies made me think of others I have watched...one afternoon about 4 years ago I sat and watched the strangest movie...the guy from Capote was in it...his wife had died..she had killed herself by sitting in the car and blocking the exhaust.....

Anyway...this guy then starts sniffing gasoline on rags and getting high as a way to connect with his grief and his wife......the whole movie is about him buying gasoline and sniffing it and his life falling apart...but it was a VERY weird movie......not really any story to it....he then had to find other ways to get gasoline when the local garages stopped selling it to him - so he started flying radio controlled/ gas powered miniature planes....so he could get the fuel.......

It was also a BIZARRE movie......I have never seen it on tv again........

What bizarre movies have you sat through?

Good Friday

Its Good Friday........11am. So far today I have cleaned the bathrooms, sorted two baskets of laundry.......tidied and cleaned my bedroom, tidied my scrapbook table...and I am about to wash the floors.......Derek is coming over at lunchtime about some jobs that need to be done......then I think we may go out...no idea where...maybe a drive to New Sarepta or something to see what it is like there...it isn't far but we have never been....

Lloyd is painting the edges around the door frames etc and then we plan to prep the girls room....

Last night we watched the strangest movie...it was called 'Broken Flowers' and starred Bill Murray, Sharon Stone, Jessica Lange......it was about a man in his 60's (I'm guessing) who gets an unsigned letter from an ex girlfriend from 20 years ago who tells him he has a Son aged 19.......but as the letter isn't signed he has NO idea who the Mother is.....

His neighbour sends him on this road trip to see all his ex girlfriends to see who the Mother is....all his ex girlfriends are weird and after the trip he still doesn't know which is the Mother...and then at the end of the movie he meets this boy and assumes he is his Son but the boy runs off and you are left not knowing who the Son is, who the mother is, whether he gets back with his girlfriend or whatever.......in fact no questions are answered at the end and you aren't even sure if the letter was real or if his girlfriend had made it all up.......

It was BIZARRE I tell you! BIZARRE....total garbage BUT it was one of those movies you sit through to the end just to see how it ends - but this one didn't end really - it just ended lol but with no real ending.....

Anyway - odd movie with well known actors so that was odd too!

Off to wash the floors!

Todays ongoing debate...

We frequently have debates going on in this household and todays is:

Is celery a womans food? I love celery but Lloyd says that is because I am a woman! He says men don't like celery......and when I think about it, I don't know any men who do like celery.....

So, is celery a womans food or are there men who love it too????????

My two oldest boys like celery but I wouldn't say they 'love' it...........

My Thursday..........

The weekend has officially started I guess, as the children are home from school and its a long weekend...4 days.......

This morning (it was snowing STILL grrrr) I took Abigail to pre-school and then went to meet Val on Hwy 21 for breakfast....I really look forward to our weekly breakfast now :) The restaurant was really quiet and I got there early so I grabbed a local freebie paper and sat with my coffee until Val arrived...the waitress said she was surprised to see me alone as normally we have a table full :) It was the first time I was CHILD FREE for breakfast :)

I had toast this morning because I really didn't fancy having anything else...but I drank a gallon of coffee I think lol! Their coffee is REALLY good.........

Val was telling me that her barn cats often have a litter around now and I said I'd be interested in a kitten......I'd like an indoor cat.....another Bailey ideally.....

Val and I chatted until a little after 11am and then I had to head home and pick up Lloyd and Sam...they had been changing the face plates on all the lightswitches from that dirty ivory colour to nice white ones.....then we raced and picked Abby up from preschool...she had been painting eggs at school today and brought 2 home with her.....

After that we had to run into town - we went to Timmys for lunch and then stopped at the pet store for some plant for Goldy the goldfish.....after that we went to Home Depot as Lloyd needed some more paint - we chose another shade of lilca for the girls bedroom too and a border so we can finally get their room done - their room is so horrible with the 80's style sports border and the old white paint and broken blue blinds........

Then finally home and we collected mail and my new Homeschooling Horizons magazine was there YAY!!! I do love that magazine so much - like I've said before, it would be great for school parents too as it is full of projects and ideas to help yuor child and also to keep them busy during school holidays with crafts, bookmaking etc etc......

Tonight Lloyd is taking the boys into town to have their hair cut.......I think I will soak in the bath with my magazine before they go and then I can sit with Sam and Abby this evening and read or colour.......

I am so hungry today - why am I so hungry??????? Off to chop some celery......I bought a big pack of celery hearts at Costco the other day and they are lovely with cream cheese and peanut butter...Mmmmmmmmm

Oh and last night we went to the Open House at the school....it was very interesting - I will blog more about it later.....but the good news is that Abigails best friend at preschool, Quinn, will be in her class :) Thats so great for her! At the moment they are estimating there will be 15 children in her class........and it will run two full days a week and then after Christmas will be two full days a week and every other Wednesday until 2pm........I love that it is full day rather than just mornings...it will suit her better and means Sam and I can do more by ourselves on those days.....

Lloyd got the phone call today! He can go in and sign his contract on Tuesday moring...then it has to be signed by the deputy minister and as soon as that is done he can start....so he may be back at work next Wednesday :( I love having him at home so much! and he is getting so many of the unfinished jobs done :) we looked at base boards today (skirting boards) YAY!!!!! I may have baseboards before too long! That would be nice - we haven't had any for so long lol!

decorating cupcakes...

From this:

To this:

I bought a cup cake decorating kit at the weekend with my 40% off coupon and today I finally got to try it out...I have never used an icing bag before but have always wanted to make pretty cupcakes.....so this is my VERY first attempt...Abigail decorated most of them with jelly beans and the special jelly diamonds for cakes.....I decorated a few with just sprinkles....the children just got home from school.....they are digging in to the cupcakes already and are loving them :)

So now I just need to keep baking cupcakes so I can practice with the icing bag........its not easy lol! I have several different tips to try out too.........

Easter baking........

This afternoon Abigail and I did some baking for Easter....we made Spiced Easter cookies.....and Abigail cut them out and she made hearts and ducks and a few circles......they are delicious - even Lloyd loves them and hasn't stopped eating them since they cooled!!!

Abby Banana.......

math fun.....

Abigail and Sam sat at the table for a while and used the pattern math set we have.......'Busy Bugs'.......Abigail was adding with the bugs and Sam was using them to match the colours and th epatterns on the boards.......then Sam spent a while just running around with the plastic bugs :)

It is so lovely having Lloyd home this week...he has been finishing the painting around the house and catching up on unfonished jobs here...it is still snowing so we have had a lazy day at home but its been really nice :)

Are Canadian tourists damaging Antarctica?

I saw this on Scrappershaven.ca and thought it was great :)

For those not in Canada, Tim Hortons is like a drug to Canadians....Moms can't do the school run without a 'Timmys' coffee....no trip to the store is complete with a Tim Hortons break :) The drive thru coffee shops are like Starbucks in the UK - practically on every street corner :)

Emily Yeung.........

Emily Yeung was at Disney Worlds Magic Kingdom today...and then behind the scenes in the costume design department at MGM Studios.....

I want to be back at Disney World :(
