My obsession!!!

This is a page I did today for Glenda's Dare #3 at Scrappers Haven. We had to scrap a page about our 'obsession'......I ahd wanted to do a page about all the things I 'steal' from hotels (my dirty little secret lol) but I had already sorted out my 'loot' from this last trip, so I didn't have anything to take a picture of......so instead I picked blogging!

I love these Dares...they really get your scrapbooking about yourself in a great way! My pages are still too simplistic for my liking, but I'm glad I do them......

The challenges and dares at Scrappers Haven are one of the things I love the best about that site.....they really inspire you to get scrapbooking again!

Craft supplies and curriculum!

We went to Michaels today and stocked up with craft supplies for a few projects I've been planning....including firework pictures for Guy Fawkes night on Monday. WE bought glitter in all kinds of colours, new paint in the primary colours and black and white...and numerous project kits for Christmas....

This evening I also printed off some number lines and umber charts for next week and I order Five In A Row which is a curriculum based on quality fiction. You can read more about it here: www.fiveinarow.com/fiar/

I ordered a book by Dr Ruth Beechick too www.homehearts.com/beechick.html

and some card games.

I'd like to get Chocolate Chip math but can't find it anywhere....

This morning Abigail whizzed through several pages of her math workbook..then spent a while on her math cdrom....next week I have 'lesson plans' for want of a better term.....basically I have aplan of activities to get through during the week....but we also have some field trips planned....I just hope I feel better and more able to face it all - this week I have been sick and had no energy to do much at all.....thankfully Abigail is happy to read or do her workbooks etc so it's been an easy week all round!

Library reading...

My friend Jennifer is giv ing a 'reading' from her novel at the library next week :) How wonderful!!!!

I am going to be holding a reading on the evening of November 12 at the Strathcona County Library, together with Jennifer Rahn. I know most of you are already familiar with my book, Dominion, which was released by DragonMoon Press two years ago. Well, DragonMoon had just released a terrific new book by another Alberta author, who happens to share my first name. Jennifer Rahn currently lives in Calgary, but grew up in Sherwood Park, and is coming back here to promote her first novel, The Longevity Thesis. We will both be reading from our respective books, and will also provide refreshments. We are hoping that this will be a fun evening, with plenty of opportunity for us all to visit and get to know each other better. We will begin at 7:00pm, and continue until 8:45.

I know you will enjoy meeting Jennifer R. She is a wonderful, intelligent person. I have read her book, and found it really absorbing. It is not your typical fantasy, by any means. The story centres on a university campus in an underground land, where the inhabitants have so long avoided the desert above them that many now regard the stories of its magic as mere superstition. Antronos, who has been touched by that magic, knows better. But even he does not suspect what ancient and unnatural beings are at work within the University itself, until his desire to study longevity places him in their power. The Longevity Thesis is at turns darkly primeval and disconcertingly modern, grimly macabre and life-afirming: compounded together, these ingredients create a powerful and unsettling tale.

I hope you will be able to join us on the 12th. Please pass this on to anyone else who might be interested.

Afternoon...

Still feeling crappy with my throat and cough and everything...but we headed out anyway. We had lunch out and went to Michaels....we bought glitter, new pots of paint, lots of wooden crafty bits and pieces to be painted....playdough, foamy kits....

And I bought the cutest snowman - its a jar and the snowman is kind of around the jar...or like the jar part is his belly.....its very cute anyway...not sure what I will fill it with, but he is sat on the table in my hallway :)

I heard back from Runners World - they said my subscription was cancelled because of a problem with my address (?????) yet they had my email address - they had used that to send my confirmation number etc...so why didn't they just email me to confirm my address????? So I have waited since June and they did NOTHING!!!! Ggrrrrrr. Lloyd said he would sort out my subscription for me if I wnat but I said to forget it - I think I would rather just buy the magazine each month instead of all this hassle...its the sme with Cretaing Keepsake magazine - you get your issue about 2 days before the NEXT one is due in the stores :( gggrrrrrr!

Today I got The Old Schoolhouse magazine in my mailbox...its a religious homeschool magazine....its ok - a little over the top re religion, but some of the articles are useful....I won a free subscription last year.

So when Chris gets home from school in a short while, I plan to go and soak in the bath with some Radox and my two magazines (I finally BOUGHT Runners World today now I know it won't be arriving in my mail box) Oh and Danica yes, I'm still running....I just never seem to update my running blog.....there seems little point unless something interesting happens on my run or I am in a race....not sure people would want to read 'today I ran for 30 minutes. I haven't run this week because I've been ill but apart from that yes I'm still running. I look forward to it - it gives you a high :)

Lloyd is cooking his infamous Butter Chicken tonight.....I had to pick the cream up in town earlier....along with some Alphabits cereal for a spelling activity on Monday.

Kids are home so I am off for my bath now :)

Friday morning

My throat is rough and sore again and my cough is driving me nuts and my head hurts :(

I think maybe my body knew I needed to get through Halloween, so I felt fine for a day or two...but this morning I don't feel good :(

I was heading into town today - to Michaels for a few supplies...but I think I will go in tomorrow when we go to Costco instead. I don't need the supplies until Monday anyway.

I'm not sure what to do today....I think we should start with breakfast!

The Marijuana..

I forgot to post about it....I meant to write about it under the Chris's stash post!

Everyone at school thought it was great fun - teachers and students...so no criticism at all for the fake joint :) I must admit I was surprised...but then I did send a note with DS stating that it was FAKE marijuana lol!

People did complain about the smell though......and I have to admit the smell was nasty lol!

Novembers first sunset........

Runners World

I am pissed off. I hate subscriptions to magazines because the srevice you get is CRAPPY.

I subscribed to Runners World magazine on JUNE 5TH!!!!! It is now November 1st and I have still not received an issue by mail or had any contact from them grrrrr....I just sent another email and will wait to hear...

I missed last months because I expected to get it in the mail and now there is a new one in the store and I don't know whether to buy it or not.

I am not subscribing to any other magazine ever again - except for Homeschooling Horizons which is such a fabulous magazine and I have never had any problems with them at all!

Are you a Tigger or an Eeyore?

www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=k0aO64aKqek

This is soooo inspiring....the end brought me to tears....I can't imagine how hard it must be to have to say goodbye to your children like that....what a great man!

Anyway, part of his talk made me think....are you a Tigger or an Eeyore?

I guess it reflects back on my thoughts of Daisys posts about The Secret and positive thinking etc etc.....(she posted on her blog The Montessori Homeschooler about this a few weeks back)

I think for the most part I am a Tigger....I think we all have days when we are more like Eeyore, but for the most part I'm a Tigger! Which are you?

A quiet Thursday...

After yesterdays busy day, today has been quiet and restful :) We read the new issues of Chirp with Sam and then we read A's new Nick Jr magazine...there are so many games and crafts in there so tonight I will spend time cutting them all out for tomorrow.

S had the play dough out today and A joined in for a little while.....they did a Halloween craft - colouring wooden ornaments from a kit. A did a few pages form her grade 1 book....and also played on her age 5 - 7 math cd that Grandma and Grandad sent her.

She also used my mirror from the bathroom and sat at the table and started on a self portrait in her sketch book.

We also started a list of things we need to get in town tomorrow.

Halloween Fun

WE had a day of fun yesterday for Halloween....attended a Halloween event in town in the morning...A got to help perfrom the songs at circle time...and enjoyed pumpkin cake too....and in the evening she had a blast trick or treating....

Susannah and friend....

Susannah and Julia enjoyed trick or treating together last night :) Julia lives a LONG way out of the city, so we drove her home after our evening.....she hasn't trick or treated in town before :)

Chris's stash....

I realise I don't have one picture of Chris in his costume so I will have to take one tonight...it's kind of sad that the boys do their own thing now on Halloween....I was saying to Lloyd in the car that one day it will be just Sam to take out.....and Abigail said 'Don't worry Mom, I promise to always go with you'...... :)

Chris had fun with his friends last night and got a sack load of candy so he is happy :)

Abby and Sams stash.....

Susies stash!!
