Early settlers.............

This little home would have been the kind first built by settlers on arrival here....it would have seen them through their first winter.......then they would have prepared the ground and built a larger homestead or permanent home. This little cabin would have housed the couple and their children. It had a stove and a flour mill inside........they brought tools, a few clothes and seeds with them.

The ladys husband carved the washbowl for her and she has just washed the dishes.....they have quite a nice vegetable garden growing......Laurence got to help grind some flour.......he said it was heavy and hard work.....children as young as 7 would have been expected to grind flour. It took 2 hours to grind enough flour for bread!!!

This was my favourite part of the Ukrainian village....
