After an hour or two on the porch enjoying the sunshine, I have finished 'Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures' by Vincent Lam.....it was an ok book. I'm glad I read it. I don't think it was worth the Giller Prize. The Girls is a far better book - much better writing in my opinion.
I especially didn't like the ending - or perhaps it was written ina way to show there is no ending that...life as a Doctor doesn't 'end' the hard work day after day continues....I'm not sure. It seems odd that one of the major characters was just left with no explanation or continuation of his story.
There were some interesting parts in the story but it isn't a book I would read again or particularly recommend.
On to my next book......
