Puberty confusion!

Susannah is very excited at the moment - her class has been learning about puberty! Now we discuss all of this at home anyway, but because they are talking about it at school and she is with her friends, it is all full of giggles!! She says her friends are all whispering to each other 'you're hitting puberty'!!!! And then they all giggle! Sigh!

All week this has been her main topic of discussion - at all times! Even with Lloyd in the kitchen after supper she will be discussing periods and bras and boys and sex and....how will she know she's hitting puberty? and what will it be like? And will it hurt? And when can she date? (30!)

At first it was funny....towards the end of the week it has become boring and annoying (sorry Susannah lol)

But last night to be honest some fo the things she said made me mad! Not at Susie but at the school! I realise she is at a Catholic school but some of the things the school are teaching these kids is RIDICULOUS!!!!

A couple of the Moms are helping in class this week. Some of the Moms I know.

So Susie is talking last night and says that one of the Moms says that you can get pregnant just by having your period start - just like Britney Spears sister did. I asked what she meant and she said that she meant that Britney Spears sister didn't go with a boy but got pregnant by just having her period start!!!!!!!!!!

WTF?????????????????????

So we have another Virgin Mary on our hands???? Is this what they are teaching them????

Uh no Susie....I'm sorry but Britney Spears Sister had sex with her boyfriend and got pregnant. Anyone who gets pregnant has either had sex with a boyfriend or has been to a sperm bank or had IVF (and yes we have explained these things).

Yet Catholics are so against termination of unwanted pregnancies - so why on earth don't they educate their teens and preteens PROPERLY so there are less pregnancies in the first place???????

Susannah and her friends seriously though Britney Spears sister got pregnant JUST from having her period start - so if there are girls in her class whose parents do not tell their children the truth those poor girls might be scared that when their periods start they will have a baby!!!!!!! Can you imagine that fear????????? At ten years of age????????

My children are told the truth always - at a level suitable for their age and understanding. I think it is VERY important.
