Pancake day fun :)

Yesterday was Shrove Tuesday - pancake day!!

Susannah and Laurence both had pancakes at school!

We started our day off at gymnastics -

After gymnastics we headed over to Broadmoor Lake ready for some Pancake Day FUN!!  I wanted to have my children experience a pancake race - something I remember from MY childhood in England!   So I had mentioned it to the homeschool group and invited people to join us at mid day to take part with us!  It was soooo much fun - everyone brought frying pans and pancakes - the children went first with their races....sooooo fun!!!

Then it was time for us Moms to race!  Oh my goodness - soooo not easy to run AND flip at the same time!  But we were laughing and joking as we ran!  J was the champion runner this year :)  I came in 3rd place!

pancake tennis took place:

And the kids enjoyed time on the ice:

What a fun time - memories were definitely made :)
Wonderful!

Monday...

On Monday we had a crafty morning at home - the children made Valentines and Sam put the Chinese New Year candy in a heart bowl.  In the afternoon Abigail had French class, and while she was there we went to my friend D's house - Sam played with her boys while we chatted over tea.  It was a lovely afternoon!

After French we headed out to pick Susannah up from her bus, and while we waited, we watched three deer crossing the road ahead of us.

Time at the mall.....

As well as enjoying the Chinese New Year festivities, we strolled around the mall, looked in the book store, watched some gymnastics, went to the pet store to see the animals, and went to the One Direction store that is only here for another week.  My girls are not fans of One Direction but we went anyway - that way if they ever are fans then I can remind them they went!!

We ended the afternoon in the British Import Store before heading home.

I'm not sure if I will go to this Diana show or not....

Chinese New Year - Year of the Snake

Saturday..

I didn't take many pictures today, just wasn't in that kind of a mood - which is rare for me.
Abby and Sam went to a birthday party at Kidz Quarterz for their friend A.  While they were there Susannah and I went and filled he truck up with gas and then did a little shopping ready for Abbys birthday this week.

Laurence had his big competition at NAIT and it was on the CTV news too :)
We go for a luncheon at the Shaw Conference Centre in a few weeks where we get to eat the same menu they prepared yesterday - and where the awards are given out.

We won't know the results until the actual luncheon!

The rest of my day was spent relaxing and working on a face for my 29 Faces in February challenge.

This was Saturdays face:

My Chinese Horoscope for 2013

Relationships

The Snake can be your fatal attraction, so there's a good chance you'll be smitten with love this year. Enjoy it, just don't get your hopes up too much. If you're in a relationship, this is not a time to take risks. Two things to do if you're looking for love or to just improve your love life: Cultivate an aura of mystery and always show up in the most eye-catching attire as possible. Finally, the Snake can be quite sensual, so lots of cuddling, hand holding, kissing and foreplay is encouraged!

Health

This year more than others, be careful not to overindulge. Your wild, fun ride in 2012 is changing into a much more challenging one. Do your best to avoid stress. Family and coworkers may have good intentions but sometimes you just need to walk away for a bit. This year, Water is your key to maintaining good health. Drink enough of it and surround yourself in it's peaceful ambiance. Be aware of your neck and ear areas as they could be vulnerable this year.

Wealth

Take care of your finances this year. Your trusting heart can easily lead you astray under the influence of the Snake. Fatal attraction applies in matters of finance as well as the heart. It would be wise for you to do a double take when evaluating major financial decisions. Stay away from any major purchases -- especially if they involve financing or special loans. Also, don't lend friends money this year!

Friday...

We went to pick up Susannahs new glasses that were in a week early.  Yay she can see again:

Abigail tried on some more glasses while we waited.  So did I but I'm not adding that photo as I look like a granny in them hahaha:

Then we headed to Broadmoor Lake to enjoy the gorgeous above freezing weather with Rosie.  The lake was finally open for skating, so the kids went on for a bit:

When we got home I baked some chocolate cupcakes and decorated them.  I added a touch of coffee and coconut extract to bring out the chocolatey flavour:

Good luck Laurence!!

This is the incredible dessert that Laurence has been practicing constantly for the last couple of weeks - and today is the big day - he is in a competition at NAIT for the Canadian Culinary Federation.  His team have to make a set menu of soup. entree and dessert, and Laurence is doing the dessert.

He won't find out the results for a few weeks but I hope his day is going wonderfully and that he knocks those judges socks off :)

Now if only he made things like this for me at home ;)
